ESPN.com reports that the Portland Trailblazers will choose Greg Oden first in this year’s NBA draft. The choice was between Ohio State freshman star center Oden and freshman small forward Kevin Durant from the Texas Longhorns. Durant won just about every college award possible prior to declaring for the draft.
Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and Gilbert Arenas are just three of over a dozen quality NBA players who will be free agents next year. Teams looking to make a power move towards the championship may want to clear out some salary cap room. Many of these guys—most—don’t come cheap. Detroit point guard, Chauncey Billups has exercised the opt out clause in his contract, which means he has terminated his contract with the Pistons a year early. This year, Billups played in 70 games, averaging 17.0 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 7.2 APG and 1.2 SPG. He shot 43% from the floor, 35% from downtown and 88% from the free throw line. The 30 year old has played 10 seasons in the NBA, playing for Boston, Toronto, Denver, Minnesota and Detroit. He’s been a member of the Pistons since the 2002- 2003 season.
