Beathard scored the go-ahead TD in the 35-27 win over Indiana last week, hurdling over three defenders for the score. The Hawkeyes went from a No. 8 ranking to a No. 5 and RB Akrum Wadley simply said of the play, “That was epic. That made me want to hurdle somebody.” Iowa has never started a season 10-0 and it has a chance to now. It has defeated two ranked opponents along the way while routing a ranked Northwestern team 40-10.

Beathard has thrown for 1,831 yards on a 60.2 percent completion rate. He averages 7.6 yards per attempt and has 10 TD passes and three INTs on the year. Beathard has rushed for 218 yards on 88 carries and has four rushing TDs.

RB Jordan Canzeri (ankle injury, but probable) has been effective with 136 carries for 698 yards (5.1 per attempt) and a team-high nine rushing TDs. Wadley (also questionable with an ankle injury) has gained 6.6 yards per attempt and has seven TDs on the year.

Beathard’s top passing target 6’1” junior wide receiver Matt VandeBerg has caught 49 receptions for 513 yards on the year with two receiving TDs. He had 114 yards on nine catches in the 31-17 win over Iowa State in Week 2. Last week VandeBerg had 68 yards on five catches.

Minnesota is riding a three-game skid that has seen it fall to Nebraska, Michigan and Ohio State. Reeling at 4-5 and sixth in the Big Ten West, it fell 28-14 to Ohio State last week. Mitch Leidner threw 27 of 44 for 281 yards with two TDs and one INT.

The Golden Gophers got just 33 rushing yards on 26 attempts though while failing to get in the end zone, and both its TDs came late in the game. KJ Maye had one of the reception TDs and Rashad Still had the other. Mayne finished with 116 receiving yards on 10 catches in the game.

Leidner has thrown for 1,908 yards on 288 attempts with a 58.3 percent completion ratio but he has seven INTs and 10 TDs on the year. His passer rating is 120.6. Leidner threw two INTs against Nebraska and had one last week against Ohio State. His best game was his 264 yard effort against Ohio when he posted a 142.5 passer rating.
