Oklahoma St is a 14 point favorite at home against Iowa St Saturday in Big 12 action.

Oklahoma St hosts Iowa St Saturday. This is the 47th meeting between the schools, and the Cowboys lead the series 25-18-3, including 14-6-2 in Still water. Iowa St won last year’s meeting 37-31 in double overtime in Ames. The loss kept the then #2 Cowboys out of the BCS Championship game.

Iowa St is 4-2 this season and 1-2 in the Big 12 under coach Paul Rhoads. Despite losing last week at home to top five team Kansas St 27-21, Iowa St was ranked #24 in the first BCS standings. The Cyclones also have a loss at home to Texas Tech 24-13. Iowa St has home wins over Tulsa 38-23 and Western Illinois 37-3 along with road wins at Iowa 9-6 and TCU 37-23. The Cyclones are 3-2-1 ATS and the total is 2-3. ISU was a 6 point underdog at home against Kansas St last week and the total was 48.5.

Iowa St is averaging 342.8 yards per game on offense, including 199.8 passing yards and 143 rushing yards. The Cyclones are outscoring teams 25.8-17.7 this season. The Cyclones are 78th or worse out of 124 teams in all offensive coordinators. On defense, Iowa St is allowing 342.3 yards per game, including 216.3 passing yards and 126 rushing yards. Iowa St has forced 13 turnovers, but has given up 14 of their own. The Cyclones have forced 13 sacks and has allowed 9. Iowa St is 36/91 on third and fourth down conversions, and 15/20 scoring in the red zone with 13 touchdowns. Cyclone opponents are 41/113 on third and fourth downs, and 17/20 scoring in the red zone with 11 touchdowns.

Iowa St quarterback Jared Barnett made his first start of the season against TCU. Barnett took over from Steele Jantz who wasn’t injured but benched for throwing too many interceptions. Jantz has completed 85/127 passes (66.9%) for 804 yards with 7 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Jantz also has 54 carries, 85 yards and a touchdown. Barnett is 32/66 passing (48.5%) for 380 yards with 5 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, along with 20 carries for 80 yards. Running back James White has 48 carries for 264 yards with 2 touchdowns, along with 14 catches for 119 yards. He is doubtful with a knee injury after missing the Kansas St game.  Shontrelle Johnson has 58 carries, 246 yards and a touchdown, along with 7 catches for 34 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Josh Lenz has 18 catches, 279 yards, and 4 touchdowns. Chris Young has 17 catches, 183 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Aaron Horne has 24 catches, 232 yards and 2 touchdowns. Ernst Brun, Jr. has 10 catches for 112 yards but has 4 touchdowns.

Oklahoma St is 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big 12under coach Mike Gundy. The Cowboys have losses at Arizona 59-38 and at home against Texas 41-36. OSU has wins at home over Savannah St 84-0 & Louisiana-Lafayette 65-24 and at Kansas last week 20-14. The Cowboys are 1-3 ATS and the total is 3-1 this season. OSU was a 26.5 point favorite at Kansas last week and the total was 67.5.

Oklahoma St is averaging 601.4 yards per game on offense, including 338.2 passing yards and 263.2 rushing yards. The Cowboys are outscoring teams 48-6-27-6 this season. OSU is #1 in total offense, and in the top 10 nationally in the other offensive categories. The Cowboys are -5 in turnovers. OSU is averaging 72 penalty yards per game and has allowed 2 sacks. The Cowboys are 42/79 on third and fourth down conversions, and 26/27 scoring in the red zone with 21 touchdowns. Oklahoma St is allowing 370.8 yards per game on defense, including 236.4 passing yards and 134.4 rushing yards. The Cowboys have forced 11 sacks this season and 4 turnovers. OSU opponents are 36/96 on third and fourth down conversions, and 14/15 scoring in the red zone with 11 touchdowns.

Oklahoma St quarterback J.W. Walsh has completed 70 of 107 passes (65.4%) with 1,052 yards with 9 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, along with 27 carries 208 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wes Lunt started the first three games of the season but has missed the last two games with a knee injury. He is still questionable, but could split the snaps with Walsh.  Lunt is 51/75 passing for 588 yards with 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Running back Joseph Randle has 104 carries, 614 yards and 6 touchdowns, along with 12 catches, for 94 yards. Desmond Roland and Jeremy Smith each have 4 rushing touchdowns this season. Receiver Josh Stewart has 29 catches, 365 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tracy Moore has 20 catches, 259 yards and 4 touchdowns. Blake Jackson and Charlie Moore will also get some targets. John Goodlett has only 5 catches, but two of them went for touchdowns.

Iowa St is 3-0-1 ATS in October, 5-0 in road games, 5-1 after accumulating less than 275 total yards, 4-1 after a straight up loss, 4-1-1 in Big 12 games, 7-3-1 against teams with winning records, 7-3 after passing for less than 170 yards, and 9-24 after rushing for less than 100 yards.

Oklahoma St is 7-1 ATS after failing to cover, 9-3 on fieldturf, 18-7-1 in October, 11-5 in Big 12 games, 1-4 overall, 1-5 after allowing less than 20 points, and 0-4 after a straight up win. The favorite is 6-1 ATS in this series and the home team is 5-1 recently.

Iowa St has a good defense, but I don’t know if they can slow down the high powered Cowboy offense, no matter if Lunt or Walsh is the quarterback. I like the Cowboys to get a small measure of revenge for Iowa St preventing them from an undefeated season, and a chance at a national championship last season.
