Coach: Houston Nutt (9th year at Arkansas)
Team Name: Razorbacks
2005 Overall Record: 4-7
2005 SEC Conference Record 2-6
Returning Starters: 19

For many years, the Razorbacks have been noted for their running game. Last season they were 12th in rushing yards per game with 216.9. In 2006, they’re looking to air it our more, the question is “who will be doing the airing?”

QB is up for grabs—Casey Dick, Robert Johnson and Mitch Mustain are all in contention with none having yet secured the central spot.

The starting offensive line lost only one player this season—they should be stellar.

Running behind them, tailback Darren McFadden (176 carries, 1,113 YDS, 11 TDs) has acceleration, power and speed that can carry him to the goal line. Fullback Peyton Hillis meshes athleticism with speed to gain yards on the ground and after catching a pass.

Marcus Monk is the team’s most prominent receiver but he needs some help from other potential targets.

The defense was sound against the run last season. Nine starters are back, with the biggest question for Arkansas being at free safety where Michael Grant will get the start. Opponents have tended to exploit the secondary and may still do so this season.

The Razorbacks lost four close SEC contests in 2005. With the right QB those games could go in their favor. They have a difficult schedule, including an opener on the road against USC. Key post-season determining games will be against Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee.
