Marlins at Braves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Braves are in position to win their 18th home series of the year in Sunday&#8217;s series finale against the Marlins.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Florida Marlins at Atlanta Braves<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4982\" src=\"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/jason-heyward-braves-82-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/jason-heyward-braves-82-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/jason-heyward-braves-82-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>Florida fell 12-3 in the second game of this three-game set in Atlanta, falling 8 1\/2 games back in the NL East race.\u00a0 The 12 runs allowed were a season-high by the Marlins and starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco managed to last just two innings.\u00a0 \u201cI just stunk.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t throw anything where I wanted to,\u201d said Nolasco.\u00a0 The club still has seven\u00a0 meetings remaining in the season series which includes today\u2019s series finale at Turner Field.\u00a0 The Fish expect rookie outfielder Mike Stanton to get the start in right field this afternoon after not starting in the previous two games.\u00a0 Also, third baseman Wes Helms is also expected to return after sitting out the first pair of games in this series.\u00a0 Florida still holds a solid 27-23 record against divisional opponents (+460) and the total is 26-21 O\/U in those contests.\u00a0 The Marlins also possess a winning 17-15 mark in daytime games and are 64-58 under the sun the past three years (+1,060).<\/p>\n<p>Marlins starting pitcher Josh Johnson is 11-5 with a 2.36 ERA in 26 starts this season and has alternated wins and losses over his last five starts.\u00a0 In his last outing, he picked up a no decision in a 6-5 road loss to the Mets, allowing four runs (three earned) and six hits over five innings of work.\u00a0 The right-hander is 4-3 with a 3.51 ERA in 12 road starts in 2010, issuing 24 walks and tallying 51 punch outs in 74.1 frames.\u00a0 He will be making just his ninth daytime start, producing a 4-2 mark and 2.88 ERA, as opponents are hitting for a combined .217 average.\u00a0 Johnson has faced the Braves 13 times (12 starts) in his career, going 4-2 with a 2.64 ERA, including a no decision on July 2 at today\u2019s venue.\u00a0 In that outing, he gave up just a single run on six hits and didn\u2019t walk a single batter over six innings.<\/p>\n<p>Atlanta maintained its two-game division lead over Philadelphia with yesterday\u2019s win and took a 6-5 season series lead on the Marlins.\u00a0 The Braves have posted a 5-6 record over their last 11 games and are 15-11 in August (-220).\u00a0 The team is also 22-19 since the All-Star break.\u00a0 It will prove tough to play against the home team this afternoon, as they bring in a 17-1-2 series mark at home, losing just one home series against Philadelphia from April 20-22.\u00a0 Atlanta is a major-league-best 45-18 at home this season\u00a0 (+1,550) and have already gone well over its 40 wins at Turner Field in 2009.\u00a0 The Braves have been a home underdog of +100 to +125 just four time this season, posting an even 2-2 record and 15-16 mark in this situation the last three years (+50).<\/p>\n<p>Braves starting pitcher Derek Lowe is 11-12 with a 4.33 ERA in 27 starts this season and he comes in with a three-game losing streak.\u00a0 The offense has provided just five runs of support in his last three outings, as he has allowed eight runs and 23 hits over 19 innings.\u00a0 The right-hander has an 8-5 record and 3.81 ERA in 14 home games, issuing 20 walks and tallying 53 strikeouts in 85 frames.\u00a0 He will toe the rubber for the 11th time under the sun, producing a 6-3 record and 3.60 ERA compared to a 5-9 mark and 4.77 ERA at night.\u00a0 In 18 career games (13 starts) versus the Marlins, Lowe has compiled a 6-4 record and 5.03 ERA, including a no decision effort that resulted in a 7-6 road loss on July 23.\u00a0 In that start, he surrendered four runs on five hits in 5.2 innings of work.<\/p>\n<p>Bettors will be interested in knowing that the Marlins are 8-2 in Johnson\u2019s last 10 Sunday starts and the over is 18-6-2 in his last 26 outings away from Miami.\u00a0 Atlanta steps in with a 1-4 mark in its last five games as a home underdog, but the club is 6-1 in Lowe\u2019s last seven Sunday efforts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Braves are in position to win their 18th home series of the year in Sunday&#8217;s series finale against the Marlins.
