{"id":6551,"date":"2010-08-25T13:30:09","date_gmt":"2010-08-25T18:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/?p=6551"},"modified":"2010-08-25T13:36:49","modified_gmt":"2010-08-25T18:36:49","slug":"wednesday-mlb-preview-twins-at-rangers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wednesday-mlb-preview-twins-at-rangers-6551\/","title":{"rendered":"Wednesday MLB Preview &#8211; Twins at Rangers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A pair of southpaw starters take the stage in a series that has a playoff-type atmosphere surrounding it in Arlington.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Minnesota Twins at Texas Rangers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4496\" src=\"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/cj-wilson-rangers-329-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/cj-wilson-rangers-329-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/cj-wilson-rangers-329-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>Minnesota has run into some problems in the first two games of this four-game set in Arlington, almost getting no-hit on Monday night and then falling by a 4-3 score last night to see its lead drop to 3 1\/2 games in the AL Central.\u00a0 The series definitely has a playoff feel and manager Ron Gardenhire knows the importance of these situations during the regular season by saying, \u201cWe missed a play in the outfield and it ended up costing us again.\u00a0 That\u2019s the difference in this ballgame.\u201d\u00a0 The Twins are still a solid 17-8 against the AL West this season and 14-8 this month (+510).\u00a0 Beginning tonight, the club has 11 more games against the division, with six occurring this week.\u00a0 Minnesota has also performed well against left-handed starters this season, producing a 25-18 mark in 2010 (+540) and a 82-76 record over the last three seasons (+30).<\/p>\n<p>Twins starting pitcher Brian Duensing is 7-1 with a 1.92 ERA in 45 appearances (six starts) this season and has led the team to three consecutive victories.\u00a0 Over those three outings, he has allowed just five runs (four earned) and 19 hits over 24.1 innings of work.\u00a0 The left-hander is a perfect 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA in 22 road outings (four starts) away from Target Field this year, allowing opponents to hit for just a .227 average.\u00a0 In four career games (one start) versus the Rangers, he has posted an even 1-1 mark and 1.74 ERA, including a scoreless inning of relief on May 29.\u00a0 He has made four starts this month, producing a perfect 3-0 record and 2.08 ERA, while giving up just 23 hits in 30.1 frames.<\/p>\n<p>Texas holds a commanding 8 1\/2-game lead over the Oakland Athletics in the AL West division and has an opportunity to win four games in a row since producing an 11-game winning streak from June 12-24.\u00a0 Captain Michael Young has been very pleased with his club\u2019s effort against one of the more fundamentally sound teams in baseball.\u00a0 \u201cThey are\u00a0 a club that plays the game hard and plays the game the right way,\u201d Young said.\u00a0 \u201cWe like the style of baseball we play &#8211; we\u2019ve just got to stick with it.\u201d\u00a0 The Rangers are 41-23 in Arlington in 2010 (+120) and rank second in the majors at home in both batting average (.294) and runs scored (347).\u00a0 The club is 20-18 versus southpaw hurlers this year (-290) and the total stands at 13-23 O\/U in those contests.<\/p>\n<p>Rangers starting pitcher C.J. Wilson is 12-5 with a 3.02 ERA in 25 starts this season and has watched the club win seven straight games with him on the hill.\u00a0 He\u2019s 5-0 in seven starts since the All-Star break and came a single out away from a complete game\u00a0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.\u00a0 The left-hander currently leads the staff with 12 wins and has logged 158 innings, which are both personal career highs.\u00a0 Wilson has compiled an 0-2 record and 3.41 ERA in 18 games (one start) versus the Twins, including taking a loss in his lone start against them on May 29 at Target Field.\u00a0 Overall, he has held opponents to three earned runs or less in 14 of his last 15 outings.<\/p>\n<p>Bettors will be interested in knowing that the Twins are just 10-23 in their last 23 games as a road underdog, with the under cashing four straight times in that situation.\u00a0 Texas has garnered an impressive 15-2 mark in Wilson\u2019s last 17 starts as a favorite, but the club has lost four straight to opposing southpaws.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A pair of southpaw starters take the stage in a series that has a playoff-type atmosphere surrounding it in Arlington.
