\nMississippi redshirt freshman quarterback Raymond Cotton is leaving the university. Head Coach Houston Nutt said the No.2 quarterback was going through \u201cfreshmanitis\u201d, so it seems like the decision was not football related.\u00a0 Cotton had battled sophomore Nathan Stanley for the starting job all spring, but would have most likely been the backup quarterback at the start of the season. The only other quarterback on scholarship is Randall Mackey.<\/p>\n
\nLane Kiffin isn\u2019t making any friends. He has made Tennessee Titans\u2019 assistant coach Kennedy Pola his new offensive coordinator and running backs coach and upset Titans\u2019 head coach Jeff Fisher in the process.
\nFisher complained that Kiffin had failed to contact the team to let them know they were interes-ted in Pola. The move leaves the Titans without a running backs coach days before the team is scheduled to start training camp.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>Ohio State Buckeyes dual threat quarterback Terrelle Pryor has said that he is 100% healthy going into the preseason. He had surgery in February to repair damage in his left knee, but says he\u2019s ready to go.
\nPryor threw for 2,094, 18 touchdowns and 11 picks last year. He also carried the ball 162 times, rushing for 779 yards and seven scores. He acknowledged that he was limited by his knee injury late last season, but it looks like he is ready to go for 2010.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>Linebacker\/defensive end Josh Shirley will join the Washington Huskies. The freshman had been dismissed from the UCLA football team for his alleged involvement in an on campus theft. He had been denied admission to UCLA for the fall quarter.<\/p>\n
\nBYU assistant coach Barry Lamb is retiring after 16 years with the team. He had coached the Cougar\u2019s linebacking unit, a job that graduate assistant Nick Howell will now take over.\u00a0 Lamb coached at a total of seven schools in a 33-year coaching career. Howell isn\u2019t new to the job, as he has been coaching the linebackers when Lamb was absent.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>UCLA offensive guard Stanley Hasiak is ineligible to play in the 2010 season. He failed to meet academic requirements and won\u2019t be allowed to man his spot on the Bruins\u2019 front five. He will be able to help on the scout team. Hasiak was one of the Bruins\u2019 top recruits in 2009 and was ranked fourth nationally among guards by scouts.com.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>Iowa State defensive back David Sims is being investigated in a case involving a stolen credit card. According to authorities, a Des Moines woman reported July 17 that her credit card was stolen. The woman\u2019s son had reportedly taken her credit card to Ames, Iowa.<\/p>\n
