Freshmen linebacker Josh Shirley, who originally was thought to go to USC and then chose UCLA on signing day, was the best known name among the players.<\/p>\n<p>Wide receiver Paul Richardson and cornerback Shaquille Richardson were arrested on the UCLA campus by university police along with Shirley. The arrests were made in connection with the theft of a student\u2019s purse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>McNair out as USC coach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>USC running backs coach Todd McNair\u2019s contract was not renewed after it expired Wednesday. McNair was at the center of the investigation of the illegal benefits given to Reggie Bush that led to harsh sanctions by the NCAA.<\/p>\n<p>The school announced in a press release that it would not renew the coach\u2019s contract and that it included an appeal of the NCAA\u2019s findings on McNair\u2019s involvement in the Reggie Bush case in the general appeal against the sanctions.\u00a0 This could effect the college football vegas odds in USC Trojan games this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Texas<\/strong><strong> Tech appeals ruling on Leach lawsuit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Texas Tech has filed an appeal against a ruling that former football coach Mike Leach is allowed to sue the university for breach of contract. The school fired Leach on December 30 after allegations of his mistreating a player had arisen.<\/p>\n<p>Leach allegedly mistreated receiver Adam James who had suffered a concussion. The former coach suspects that the reason for his firing was the $800,000 bonus he would have received on December 31, had he still been with the team<\/p>\n<p><strong>UGA AD charged with DUI<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>University of Georgia athletic director Damon Evans was arrested Wednesday and charged with DUI and failure to maintain a lane. Evans reportedly referred to his position at the university several times to avoid an arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Evans was accompanied by 28-year-old Courtney Fuhrmann at the time of the arrest, and Furhmann was charged with disorderly conduct. The arresting officer noted in his report that he found \u201ca red pair of lady\u2019s panties between (Evan\u2019s) legs. Not good news for the 40-year-old who is married with two kids.<\/p>\n<p>Evans will have to appear in court on July 12. His arrest took place minutes before his new five-year contract extension was scheduled to take effect. The extension was to raise his annual salary by $550,000.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tanner commits to Ohio State<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ohio State announced that Ron Tanner became its 17<sup>th<\/sup>recruit of the 2011 class. Tanner, a safety, is the second recruit at this position and joins fellow recruit Jeremy Cash in the defensive backfield. The school is in the process of building a strong secondary. They got a verbal commitment from DerJuan Gambrell, who will line up in the defensive backfield as well, earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maryland buffs up offensive line; gets commitment from Zeller<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Andrew Zeller joins three fellow offensive linemen in Maryland\u2019s 2011 recruiting class. The Terrapins had already received verbals from Larry Mazyck, Evan Mulrooney, and Ryan Doyle, before getting the nod from Zeller during his visit to the school Friday.
