Clippers are 37-29 and have won seven of its last 10. The Clippers have a strange assortment of players that do not seem to really fit together, but there is no discounting the massive collection of talent on the team.

Montrezl Harrell has become a major contributor after coming out as a second-round pick of the Houston Rockets. Harrell has averaged 15.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in just 25.5 minutes a night. Thought originally to be undersized, he has made up with for it with his massive wingspan, athleticism, and with his energy.

Lou Williams is still a bucket-getter, and he is averaging 18.7 points per game.

But the Clippers leader has been Tobias Harris, who has basically stepped into the same role once occupied by superstar Blake Griffin. Harris is leading the team at 20 points per game while adding eight rebounds per game, and just over two assists. Danilo Galinari disappears at times, but when he is locked in he is one of the best shooting forwards in the league. Gallo is averaging 19.4 points while shooting 45 percent from the floor and an outstanding 45 percent on his 5.5 three-pointers per game.

The Clippers “only” attempt 24.7 threes per game, but it connects on 39 percent of those while shooting 47 percent from the floor overall. For such a seemingly strange collection of talent, the Clippers are in the playoff race early and should find its way into the postseason.

OKC

Oklahoma City has been rolling, and its plan of attack is slightly different, so perhaps that is why. Russell Westbrook, while still a dominant force in all aspects of the game, has shifted the primary scoring responsibilities to swingman Paul George. George has thrived.

Over his last five games, he is averaging 38.4 points per game while shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor and 48 percent from three. He has simply been en fuego–and Westbrook has facilitated plenty of it, in serving a more passive role as the Thunder’s best player and playmaker.

Westbrook had 16 points, 16 assists, and 15 rebounds in his 36 minutes against the Orlando Magic in the Thunder’s most recent 132-122 victory over the Magic. Westbrook is averaging 1.5 points per game less than his career average, but he is averaging 2.8 assists more per game than his career average of 8.3 per contest. He has had a triple-double in seven straight games, and the Thunder have won all but one of those games. It seems that OKC has stumbled across its secret to success this season, but it unclear whether this methodology will be anywhere enough to defeat the vaunted Golden State Warriors when the playoffs roll around.

The only thing that is certain, is that the chances are better than ever for this OKC team. Westbrook and George are both tops at their position, and the OKC defense has been suffocating. This could finally be the year that Westbrook experiences some postseason success to pad his Hall of Fame resume after averaging a triple-double for three consecutive seasons. The emergence of George into a true superstar is what has driven it, but Westbrook is the heart and soul of the Thunder.

ATS TRENDS (C/o Covers):

Oklahoma City

Thunder are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games after scoring more than 125 points in their previous game.

Thunder are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win.

Thunder are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 0 days rest.

Thunder are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.

Thunder are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games.

Thunder are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.

Thunder are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games when their starting 5 players combine for more than 160 minutes of the previous day.

Thunder are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game.

Thunder are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.

Thunder are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game.

Thunder are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 vs. Western Conference.

Thunder are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.

Thunder are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games overall.

L.A.
