I’m later than normal writing this because that incredibly dull broadcast of the Oscars put me into a coma and I am just waking up. That was a lot of things tonight, but entertaining is not one of them. The Hurt Locker was a good movie, and I am glad it beat Avatar wherever it mattered, but I thought that Up in the Air was better and should have won more. Or at least it should have won something. This is the second year in a row that my favorite movie got totally shut out – I liked Frost\/Nixon best last year. Oh well.<\/p>\n
You know how you get an idea in your mind of what you expect from a star player in the NBA? When I think of Brandon Roy I think of two words – reliability and efficiency. He’s a ruthless killer. I didn’t watch his game today, but when I saw the box score I was certainly surprised – he definitely didn’t live up to my expectations for him. I would have expected him to be at his best for a big matchup with the Nuggets, but he was truly terrible. He missed 11 of 14 shots, and was a big part of the reason why the Nuggets never really had to worry about the outcome of this one. Of course, Denver deserves a bunch of credit for shutting him down. That’s one very good team. I can’t wait to see what they can do in the playoffs.<\/p>\n
What a brutal, brutal road trip for the Lakers. In their three game southern jaunt they lost in overtime to the Heat, got blown out by Charlotte, and lost to Orlando to cap it off today. I respect the heck out of the top end of their roster (obviously), but I question their depth, and this road trip is a perfect example of why I can’t help but question their toughness.<\/p>\n
The regular season for my Michigan Wolverines finally and mercifully ended today. What a mess. We started the season ranked 15th in country, yet we manged to lose 16 games and win only 14. We were unquestionably an irredeemably terrible. So, so ugly. And so hard to accept after a great year last year – a tournament win and a very good showing against Blake Griffin and Oklahoma. It’s not even like we just got some bad breaks along the way – we were really, really terrible. Combine that with the even bigger mess on the football field and the disaster on ice this year and someone out there is clearly out to get the Maize and Blue. Next year.
