Park

New York is certainly in a funk after losing its 12th game in 18 tries Tuesday night, suffering a 6-5 setback to Detroit in the Motor City. The Yankees still hold a 4.5-game lead in the AL East standings, but it’s the smallest such margin since June 29. “There should be a high level of concern,” commented Yankees third baseman Eric Chavez. Outfielder Curtis Granderson needs to get going offensively, batting just .119 over his last 10 games, which has hurt a lineup that’s without an injured Alex Rodriguez. New York is 7-8 as a road favorite of -125 to -150, with the “under” going 9-6 in that situation.

Yankees starting pitcher CC Sabathia (11-3, 3.53 ERA) tallied a 6-3 complete-game home victory against the Seattle Mariners in his last outing, giving up three runs and three hits, while striking out 10 and issuing just a single walk. The left-hander is 5-1 with a 4.26 ERA in 10 road starts, with opposing hitters batting .288 against him. In 34 career games versus the Tigers, Sabathia has produced a 17-12 record and 4.44 ERA, including an 8-5 mark and 4.27 ERA in 15 efforts at this ballpark.

Detroit has matched its longest win streak of the 2012 campaign after last night’s victory, while the club has won 10 consecutive games in front of the home fans. The Tigers have outscored opponents by a sizable 68-28 margin in that stretch, as it tries to tie a franchise record that was set in August 1949. Third baseman Miguel Cabrera is absolutely crushing the baseball, coming into this affair with 95 RBIs in 110 games. Detroit is 17-14 against left-handed starters this season.

Tigers starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez (6-8, 3.99 ERA) picked up his first AL victory since being acquired from the Miami Marlins before the July 31 Trade Deadline, allowing two runs (one earned) and eight hits over six innings in a 10-2 home win over the Cleveland Indians. The right-hander is 3-5 with a 4.84 ERA in 10 home outings this year, but nine of those efforts occurred in South Florida. Sanchez earned a 5-0 road victory in his MLB debut against the Yankees on June 25, 2006.

Sports bettors will likely play the total in this affair, with the OVER going 5-2 in Sabathia’s last seven efforts in this series.

Make sure to check out our Major League Baseball picks all season long and get the most up-to-date betting odds at
