class="wp-caption-text">New York Mets 3B David Wright has fared well against tonight’s starting pitcher in his career

New York has lost 15 of 19 games and will look to bounce back from a 4-1 setback to San Francisco on Tuesday night, as the club sits at 3-3 on its current season-high 11-game road trip. The Mets will look to get some production out of third baseman David Wright in this affair, coming in with a .429 lifetime average against tonight’s opposing starter, which includes five doubles in 21 at-bats. New York is 3-12 against winning teams during the second half of the season, while the “over” is 9-6 in that span.

Mets starting pitcher Jonathon Niese (7-5, 3.86 ERA) has watched the club drop his last four outings, as he suffered an 11-5 road loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks last time out, giving up eight runs (six earned) and nine hits over six frames. The left-hander is 3-3 with a 3.70 ERA in 10 road outings, surrendering eight home runs in 58.1 combined innings. In three career appearances (two starts) versus the Giants, Niese has garnered an 0-1 record and 4.05 ERA, including a no-decision effort on April 20 (6 IP, 3 ER).

San Francisco is currently 3-5 on its 10-game homestand and will welcome a new player to the clubhouse before the third game of this series, acquiring Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Hunter Pence at the Trade Deadline. “He’s had a lot of success here in this ballpark,” commented Giants general manager Brian Sabean. The club has a great chance of still capturing this series, considering its won 12 of the last 17 meetings against the Mets at this ballpark. San Francisco is 12-4 as a home favorite of -150 to -175 this season.

Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain (10-3, 2.80 ERA) has been knocked around a bit in not earning a decision in his last two efforts, giving up eight runs and 14 hits in 15 combined innings in that span. The right-hander is 5-2 with a 2.13 ERA in 10 home outings, issuing just eight walks and striking out 71 batters in 76 frames. In nine career games versus the Mets, Cain has compiled a 5-3 record and 3.61 ERA, including a win last year in tossing six shutout innings.

Sports bettors will likely back the Giants due to their 11-4 mark in Cain’s last 15 starts, while the Mets are 0-5 in Niese’s last five road starts against winning teams.

Make sure to check out our <a
