fourth time this year in playing its first game in San Francisco, as the club has dropped six of its last seven games on its current California road trip. The Dodgers are now just two games ahead of the Giants in the NL West division standings, but are still in a better position than last year, going 32-41 through 73 games in 2011. Offensively, the team is batting just .177 over its last seven games, which isn’t expected to improve with outfielder Matt Kemp out of the lineup. Los Angeles is 4-1 on the road with a money line of -100 to -125 this season, with the “over” going 4-1 in those contests.

Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw (5-3, 2.73 ERA) has led the club to three wins in his last four outings, but didn’t factor into the decision of a 4-1 setback on the road to the Oakland Athletics last time out. The left-hander is 2-0 with a 2.75 ERA in six road starts, issuing just eight walks and striking out 42 in 39.1 frames. In 13 career games (12 starts) versus the Giants, Kershaw has tallied a 6-2 record and 1.34 ERA, including a 4-1 mark and 0.45 ERA in six games (five starts) at this ball park.

San Francisco plated seven runs in the first two innings Monday night and never looked back, winning a series opener in 10 of its last 12 tries. “We hit the ball in the right place,” stated Giants manager Bruce Bochy. The Giants are getting great production out of third baseman Pablo Sandoval against their hated rivals, going 16 for 27 with eight RBIs in his last 10 meetings in the series. San Francisco is 14-9 in June, and the “over” is 12-10 in that span.

Giants starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong (6-3, 2.41 ERA) had his personal six-game winning streak snapped in his last effort, dropping a 6-0 road decision to the Los Angeles Angels, surrendering three runs and seven hits over seven innings. The right-hander is 3-2 with a 1.47 ERA in seven home outings, with opponents hitting just .189 against him. In 14 career games (five starts) versus the Dodgers, Vogelsong has a 3-2 record and 4.17 ERA, including a win over Kershaw earlier this year.

Bettors will likely back the Giants due to their 6-0 mark at home with a total of 6.5 or lower, while the Dodgers are 1-4 in their last five division
