class="wp-caption-text">New York Mets SP Johan Santana has received a couple extra days of rest since pitching the first no-hitter in franchise history

New York managed to avoid a three-game sweep by the Washington Nationals on the road Thursday, coming away with a 3-1 series-ending victory. The Mets will now jump back into action against the American League, as it looks to bounce back from losing four of six to the Yankees in last year’s Subway Series. Third baseman David Wright will likely lead the club offensively, hitting .429 (6-for-14) in his career against Kuroda, but has failed to register an extra-base hit. New York is 3-4 as a road underdog of +100 to +125 this season, with the “over” going 5-2 in those contests.

Mets starting pitcher Johan Santana (3-2, 2.38 ERA) is set to make his first start since pitching the first no-hitter in franchise history, which came against the St. Louis Cardinals at home on June 1. The left-hander is 0-1 with a 5.03 ERA in four road outings, with opposing hitters batting .263 against him. In 13 career games (10 starts) versus the Yankees, Santana has tallied a 5-3 record and 4.18 ERA, but is 0-2 with a 13.00 ERA in two career starts at this ball park.

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter will likely be the happiest player on the diamond Friday night, considering he’s batting .481 with six home runs during a 25-game hit streak against the Mets. The Yankees have won six of their last 10 games, as they look to bounce back from a 7-3 home setback against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night. “I just thought they put their hits together,” stated Yankees manager Joe Girardi. “We weren’t able to do it.” New York enters this series with a 49-35 record against the Mets during regular-season action.

Yankees starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda (4-6, 3.82 ERA) didn’t factor into the decision of a 4-3 road loss to the Detroit Tigers last time out, giving up two runs and seven hits over seven strong innings. The right-hander is 3-2 with a 3.41 ERA in five home starts, surrendering five home runs in 31.2 combined frames. In seven career starts versus the Mets, Kuroda has produced a losing 1-5 record and 5.75 ERA, giving up four earned runs or more in four of those outings.

Bettors will likely play the total in this contest, with the OVER going 6-0-1 in Santana’s last seven starts, which fits nicely with the Yankees going above the number in 21 of their last 31 home games with a total of 7.0 to 8.5.

Make sure to check out our Major League Baseball
