Longhorns

Oklahoma is set to meet Texas in the 106th renewal of the AT&T Red River Rivalry, as the two teams will meet for the 25th time with perfect records. The Sooners are coming off an impressive 62-6 win over the Ball State Cardinals, racking up 655 yards of total offense, but the coaching staff is tempering expectations with the long road ahead. “Our guys are well aware that as we move forward, there’s going to be a lot of bigger challenges out there,” commented head coach Bob Stoops. The team has played just one game outside of Norman this year, handing the Florida State Seminoles a 23-13 loss as 3.5-point road favorites. Oklahoma is 2-3 ATS on a neutral field and 15-14 ATS over the last two-plus seasons.

The Sooners will be meeting the Longhorns in Dallas for the 83rd consecutive year, as the two schools are within 200 miles of the site. Quarterback Landry Jones continues to be amongst the top candidates for the Heisman Trophy, moving into the top spot in terms of total passing yards in school history. His top receiver is Ryan Broyles, who is just 13 receptions away for the NCAA record. He already has 38 catches for 476 yards this season. On the defensive side of the ball, Oklahoma has amassed 11 sacks this season, including a season-high six versus the Seminoles.

Texas will be seeking revenge for a third consecutive game, as the team dropped last year’s contest 28-20 as three-point neutral-site underdogs. The Longhorns have already avenged a pair of losses from a year ago, handing the UCLA Bruins (49-20) and Iowa State Cyclones (37-14) defeats. “It’s really bid to be 4-0. I’m not sure a lot of people would’ve thought five weeks ago we would’ve been 4-0 right now,” commented Longhorns head coach Mack Brown. “Guys are playing with a lot of confidence.” Texas and Oklahoma have met 31 times when both teams were undefeated. Texas is 1-2 ATS as an underdog of 3.5 to 10 points.

The Longhorns have tallied a 14-17-3 record when both teams are ranked in the AP Top 25, but is 5-15-2 when it enters as the lower-rated team Texas has amassed 83 regular season conference wins since 1998, which is the most of any Big 12 Conference team, just one ahead of Oklahoma. ESPN College GameDay will be in Dallas this week, covering the rivalry for the fifth time. Overall, Texas is 9-5 when the crew is covering its games.

Bettors will likely back the Sooners due to their 4-0 ATS mark after a win of 20 or more points, while the Longhorns are 0-5-1 ATS at a neutral site.

Don’t miss out on a
