id="caption-attachment-4870" class="wp-caption-text">The Jacksonville Jaguars have covered the last six meetings against the New York Jets

Jacksonville walked away with a 16-14 home win last week as one-point favorites and now will try to move to 2-0 for the first time since 2006, while also winning its first road opener since 2007. The Jaguars have a good opportunity of accomplishing both tasks, leading the all-time series, 6-2, including wins in the last three meetings. “We’ve bog a tough task, but why sign up if everything was easy, right?,” commented star running back Maurice Jones-Drew. The former UCLA star hasn’t scored a rushing touchdown on the road since the Jaguars beat the Jets in 2009. Jacksonville is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games.

The Jaguars won the last meeting behind 123 yards and a touchdown from Jones-Drew and the veteran looks like he’s recovered from a knee injury that kept him out of the final two games a year ago. Both coaches are familiar with each other, as Jaguars’ Jack Del Rio and the Jets’ Rex Ryan were defensive coaches on the 2000 Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl team. It’s still important to note that the squad is 9-12 in itsl ast 21 games, with only one of those victories coming against a winning team.

New York erased a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Dallas Cowboys, 27-24, on Sunday Night Football last week. The Jets failed to deliver as 6.5-point home favorites, while the game went over the posted total of 40 1/2. It was an interesting game plan for the team, as quarterback Mark Sanchez was asked to throw the ball against a depleted Cowboys’ secondary. He ended the night 26 for 44 with two touchdowns and an interception. New York is 22-17 ATS over the last two-plus campaigns.

The Jets know that they must get their infamous “ground and pound” going, but they are also aware that the Jaguars allowed just 24 yards on nine carries to Tennessee Titans star running back Chris Johnson last week. New York will still game plan a more balanced approach offensively in this contest, as 44 passes versus 16 runs will not work over the course of the season. “We need to do a better job of protecting him and we need to be able to run the ball better,” stated Ryan after last week’s win. Slow starts have also plagued this team, failing to score an offensive touchdown in the first 15 minutes in 16 straight games.

Bettors will likely back the Jaguars due to their 6-0 ATS mark in the last six meetings, while the Jets are 2-5 ATS as a favorite of 3.5 to 10 points.

Don’t miss out on a
