The New York Yankees have won a season-high six consecutive games after coming away with a decisive 5-1 victory last night over the Mets.\u00a0 The Yankees already took two out of three from the Mets in the first edition of the Subway Series at Yankee Stadium in May.\u00a0 \u201cThe Mets have been playing really well, we\u2019ve been playing really well,\u201d said Bronx Bombers first baseman Mark Teixeira.\u00a0 \u201cSo it was the immovable object versus the unstoppable force tonight.\u201d\u00a0 Teixeira is tied with Toronto\u2019s Jose Bautista for the Major League lead with 25 home runs and is now one of just four players all time to hit at least 25 round trippers in his first nine MLB seasons.\u00a0 New York is now in one of its best situations, looking to improve upon its MLB-best 23-4 daytime record.<\/p>\n

Yankees starting pitcher Bartolo Colon returns to action off a three-week stay on the disabled list due to a hamstring injury.\u00a0 The right-hander was rolling right along before the mishap, including wins in his last three starts, allowing just three runs and 12 hits over 21 innings over that span.\u00a0 Colon is a solid 3-1 with a 2.82 ERA in seven road appearances (six starts), issuing just seven walks and registering 40 strikeouts in 44 2\/3 frames.\u00a0 In four career games versus the Mets, he has tallied a 3-1 mark and 3.46 ERA, but will be making his first start at Citi Field.<\/p>\n

The New York Mets offense was silenced last night after batting .385 over its previous five games.\u00a0 The Mets have also lost back-to-back games after posting four straight victories, a span that saw them score 52 runs in those contests.\u00a0 Shortstop Jose Reyes continues to be the talk of the town, coming off a June that saw him finish with 45 hits and 29 runs scored in 26 games.\u00a0 He picked up two hits in the series opener and is 2 for 3 lifetime against Colon.\u00a0 The club has an opportunity to bounce back much like its recent performance at home, posting a 17-13 record at Citi Field since starting the year 1-8 at the venue.<\/p>\n

Mets starting pitcher Dillon Gee has tallied an 8-1 mark and 3.32 ERA in 15 appearances (12 starts) this season.\u00a0 The right-hander is coming off an 8-5 road win over the Rangers last time out, giving up three runs on eight hits in six innings of work.\u00a0 Gee has been solid throughout the 2011 campaign at home, posting a 4-1 record and 2.50 ERA, as opponents are hitting just .200 against him.\u00a0 He will be making his first start in the Subway Series and the club is 11-1 in his starting assignments this year.<\/p>\n
