id="caption-attachment-4960" class="wp-caption-text">Chicago White Sox 1B Paul Konerko has 20 home runs this season

The Chicago Cubs were able to overcome an early 3-0 deficit to capture a 6-3 win last night versus the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. The Cubs offense was confident it could come back, led by first baseman Carlos Pena, who hit his 12th home run of the season. Offensively, the club is batting .251 with 39 runs scored in the last eight games after hitting just .220 with 44 runs in a 16-game stretch from May 27-June 12. Chicago will now look to even up its interleague record for the season, standing at 3-4 currently, while owning a 101-111 all-time mark overall against the American League. Following up victories has been a chore for this team, posting an 8-21 record after a win this season.

Cubs starting pitcher Matt Garza is 3-6 with a 4.14 ERA in 12 starts this season and owns a 37-40 record with a 3.90 ERA in 110 games (107 starts) against the American league. The right-hander has tallied a 1-0 mark and 2.70 ERA in two career starts at U.S. Cellular Field, but is 1-2 with a 6.87 ERA in four outings overall against the White Sox. Garza enters with a 1-4 record and 4.54 ERA in six road starts in 2011.

The Chicago White Sox are still 24-17 since May 7 despite last night’s setback, the third-best record in the American League over that span. The loss dropped the White Sox to 35-39 on the season and 41-39 all-time against the Cubs. First baseman Paul Konerko continues to swing a hot bat, hitting .437 with 21 RBIs over his last 19 games, including hitting his 20th home run of the year Monday. It’s important to note that the pitching staff has relished interleague play, as the six-man rotation is 52-24 with a 3.23 ERA all-time against the National League. Chicago is 11-20 this season when playing against a team with a losing record.

White Sox starting pitcher Mark Buehrle is scheduled to make his 15th start of the season and is 5-2 with a 2.78 ERA in his last eight starts overall. The left-hander also possesses a perfect 4-0 mark and 2.70 ERA over his last four outings at U.S. Cellular Field. Buehrle is the all-time wins leader in interleague play, going 24-6 with a 3.34 ERA in 38 career interleague games (37 starts). He has gone 5-4 with a 4.20 ERA in 12 lifetime starts versus the Cubs, including an even 2-2 record and 3.41 ERA at tonight’s venue.

Bettors will likely back the White Sox due to their 38-17 record in Buehrle’s home outings, while the Cubs are 1-5 in Garza’s last six starts as a road underdog

The Battle of the Windy City continues Tuesday night with the Cubs and White Sox battling it out at U.S. Cellular Field Chicago Cubs at
