{"id":16138,"date":"2011-06-17T15:42:06","date_gmt":"2011-06-17T20:42:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/?p=16138"},"modified":"2011-06-17T15:42:06","modified_gmt":"2011-06-17T20:42:06","slug":"interleague-play-chicago-white-sox-travel-to-phoenix-to-take-on-arizona-diamondbacks-betting-preview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/interleague-play-chicago-white-sox-travel-to-phoenix-to-take-on-arizona-diamondbacks-betting-preview-16138\/","title":{"rendered":"Interleague Play:  Chicago White Sox Travel to Phoenix To Take on Arizona Diamondbacks &#8211; Betting Preview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Chicago White Sox (33-37) AT Arizona Diamondbacks (38-32)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>June 17, 2011 at 9:40 PM EST<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Opening Moneyline:\u00a0 ARI -145, CHW +125<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Current Moneyline:\u00a0 ARI -135, CHW +115<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Opening Total:\u00a0 9<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Current Total:\u00a0 9<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SP:\u00a0 CHW- Edwin Jackson; ARI- Daniel Hudson<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15611\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15611\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15611\" src=\"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Edwin-Jackson-white-sox-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Edwin-Jackson-white-sox-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Edwin-Jackson-white-sox.jpg 495w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15611\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Edwin Jackson has been outpeformed by Hudson since last year&#039;s trade<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This matchup of pitchers tonight features two that were swapped for one another on July 30th of last season.\u00a0 So far, it has paid off for the Diamondbacks.\u00a0\u00a0 Daniel Hudson sports the better record (7-5 vs 4-5) and better ERA (3.82 vs 4.39) and so far the Diamondbacks, much to everyone&#8217;s surprise, have been the better team, as well.<\/p>\n<p>The Diamondbacks had the second worst record in the National League last year and their odds to win the world series were +10,000.\u00a0 Since the trade that brought in Hudson, he has gone 14-6 with a 2.83 ERA.<\/p>\n<p>Hudson has an above average control and command, and his heater is in the 93-95 mph range.\u00a0 He&#8217;s only 24 and made his debut in the majors last season after going 11-4 with a 3.38 ERA at the triple-A level.\u00a0 Hudson doesn&#8217;t have a go-to &#8220;out&#8221; pitch, but his array of pitches along with his good control should render him an effective starter in the majors &#8212; at the minimum.\u00a0 His PECOTA projection for the year is for a 10-7 record with a 3.80 ERA.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson recorded a no-hitter last season, but hasn&#8217;t been as impressive with an 8-7 record and a 3.83 ERA over the same span.\u00a0\u00a0 The White Sox have won 12 of Jackson&#8217;s 24 starts.<\/p>\n<p>Edwin Jackson began the year in impressive fashion, notching back to back victories, but since that time he has been relatively ineffective.\u00a0 Over his last 3 starts, his ERA is approaching 5.00.\u00a0 Last Friday against the A&#8217;s, he gave up 2 runs in 6 innings, but the White Sox pen gave up 4 runs in the 9th inning and lost the game 7-5.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson was acquired because of his upside, but with it has come a lot of inconsistency.\u00a0 Still, last season with the White Sox, after being traded for, 8 of his 11 starts were quality starts (&lt; 3 ERs, 7+ IP).\u00a0 Now at 27, it&#8217;s time for him to turn his upside and prospect potential into some solid pitching.\u00a0 Every year seems to be the year he becomes dominant, but this year Baseball Prospectus predicted only a 10-10 year with a 4.63 ERA.\u00a0 Hardly dominant.<\/p>\n<p>Ozzie Guillen is excited to face the Diamondbacks, as it will be a true test of interleague wits.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re going for business &#8211; tough business &#8211; the Diamondbacks are playing very well. They have a good ballclub, and we have to be aware of that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Diamondbacks closed to within a game and a half of the San Francisco Giants as they won 3-2 yesterday night in 10 innings.\u00a0 Justin Upton hit his first career walk-off homer and recorded three hits in total.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s awesome,\u201d Upton said. \u201cThe fact that we\u2019d just dropped two games and to be able to win in that fashion.
