{"id":15805,"date":"2011-05-26T09:48:49","date_gmt":"2011-05-26T14:48:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/?p=15805"},"modified":"2011-05-26T09:48:49","modified_gmt":"2011-05-26T14:48:49","slug":"collision-course-marlins-giants-finish-series-thursday-afternoon-at-att-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/collision-course-marlins-giants-finish-series-thursday-afternoon-at-att-park-15805\/","title":{"rendered":"Collision Course:  Marlins-Giants Finish Series Thursday Afternoon at AT&amp;T Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Florida Marlins aim for a three-game series sweep on the road this afternoon over the San Francisco Giants at AT&amp;T Park<\/p>\n<p><strong>Florida Marlins at San Francisco Giants<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15523\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15523\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Buster-Posey-giants.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15523\" src=\"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Buster-Posey-giants-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Buster-Posey-giants-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Buster-Posey-giants.jpg 495w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15523\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">San Francisco catcher Buster Posey was injured in last night&#039;s collision at home plate<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Florida came away with a 7-6 victory Wednesday night in a 12-inning affair at AT&amp;T Park that was capped by a violent collision at home plate.\u00a0 Emilio Bonifacio\u2019s sacrifice fly scored Scott Cousins, who plowed into Giants catcher Buster Posey, who was injured on the play.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s a baseball play,\u201d Cousins stated.\u00a0 \u201cThat\u2019s part of the risk of being a catcher.\u00a0 We\u2019re trying to win games also.\u00a0 I\u2019m not going to concede the out.\u00a0 Not in that situation.\u00a0 Not ever.\u201d\u00a0 Following this mid-week series versus the Giants, the Marlins will travel south to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers for three games this weekend.\u00a0 \u00a0 The team is 13-7 on the road this year and secured a 6-0-2 in series play away from Sun Life Stadium with last night\u2019s win.\u00a0 Florida is 21-13 versus right-handed starters this year.<\/p>\n<p>Marlins starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez is one the hottest pitchers in baseball and comes in with a 3-1 record and 3.02 ERA in nine starts.\u00a0 The talented right-hander has won three straight decisions and Florida has won his last three outings overall.\u00a0 In those three games, the Marlins have outscored opponents by a 14-3 margin, while he has allowed just three earned runs and 11 hits over 22 frames.\u00a0 Sanchez has struggled a bit on the road, compiling an even 1-1 mark and 4.30 ERA in four starts.\u00a0 In two career appearances versus the Giants, he is 1-0 with a 1.20 ERA, holding opposing hitters to a .122 average.<\/p>\n<p>San Francisco rallied from four runs down in the ninth inning to send last night\u2019s game to extra innings but ultimately fell short in trying to even the series at one game apiece.\u00a0 \u201cWhat a comeback.
