Missouri and Cincinnati meet for the first time in the history of the schools in a second round West Region game in Washington, DC. The #6 seed Cincinnati Bearcats are 25-8 and finished 6 in the rugged Big East with an 11-7 record. They were crushed by Notre Dame in the Big East quarterfinals 89-51, but did win 6 of their last 8 games. Missouri is 23-10 overall and finished 5th in the Big 12 at 8-8. The Tigers struggled down the stretch losing 4 of their last 5 games including getting thrashed 86-71 by Texas A&M in the Big 12 quarters. Though the Tigers did struggle down the stretch, Missouri is a very dangerous 11 seed. They were in the top 25 for most of the year until their recent swoon. Tigers Coach Mike Anderson is a Nolan Richardson disciple and runs a pressure defense scheme that is difficult to adjust to if you don’t play against it very often. Missouri is playing in their third straight tournament, while Cincinnati returns to the tournament for the first time since 2005.<\/p>\n

The two teams have never met on the basketball court. Missouri went 4-7 against teams in the tournament, while Cincinnati went 6-8 against tournament teams.
