{"id":13676,"date":"2011-02-26T02:31:58","date_gmt":"2011-02-26T07:31:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/?p=13676"},"modified":"2011-02-26T11:13:57","modified_gmt":"2011-02-26T16:13:57","slug":"big-east-basketball-betting-st-johns-at-villanova","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/big-east-basketball-betting-st-johns-at-villanova-13676\/","title":{"rendered":"Big East Basketball Betting: St. John&#8217;s at Villanova"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>St. John&#8217;s Red Storm at Villanova Wildcats, Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA<br \/>\nSaturday, February 26, 2011, 2:00 pm Eastern, TV: ESPN<br \/>\nOpening Line: Villanova -5.5<br \/>\nCurrent Line: Villanova -6<br \/>\nOpening Total: 133.5<br \/>\nCurrent Total: 134.5<br \/>\nMoney Line: Villanova -270 \/ St. John&#8217;s +230<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9778\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9778\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9778\" src=\"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/corey-fisher-villanova-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"Villanova St. John's Big East Preview\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/corey-fisher-villanova-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/corey-fisher-villanova.jpg 495w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9778\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Villanova&#039;s Corey Fisher hopes to bounce back from a terrible shooting performance in the last home game of his career<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 15th-ranked Villanova Wildcats (21-7, 9-6 Big East) hope to close out the home part of their schedule with a victory on Saturday when they host a team they are looking up to in the conference standings \u2013 the 23rd-ranked St. John\u2019s Red Storm\u00a0 (18-9, 10-5).\u00a0 The Wildcats (-6) have lost their last two home games and finish the regular season with four consecutive games against ranked Big East opponents, with the last two coming on the road at #9 Notre Dame and #4 Pittsburgh after their home finale.<\/p>\n<p>Villanova is coming off a 69-64 home loss to Syracuse on Monday despite a successful return for senior guard Corey Stokes, who was the only player on his team to make a 3-point shot.\u00a0 Stokes scored a game-high 24 points after missing three games with a toe injury, sinking 5 of 10 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc.\u00a0 The rest of the Wildcats went 0 for 16 from 3-point range en route to shooting just 32.3 percent from the field overall (21 of 65).<\/p>\n<p>Fellow senior Corey Fisher struggled mightily with his shooting, making 3 of 16 from the field and missing all eight of his 3-point attempts.\u00a0 Fisher finished with eight points after scoring a career-high 34 points in a 77-75 overtime win at DePaul last Saturday.\u00a0 Villanova\u2019s leading scorer will now try to rebound against St. John\u2019s after being held to single digits for the fifth time this season.<\/p>\n<p>While the Wildcats seem to be fading down the stretch, St. John\u2019s is definitely on the rise under head coach Steve Lavin.\u00a0 Like the Wildcats, the Red Storm are also loaded with key seniors and have really come together under Lavin in his first year with the team.\u00a0 They have won their last five games both straight-up and against the spread since losing against Lavin\u2019s former team UCLA on February 5.\u00a0 Dwight Hardy has averaged nearly 24 points in those games.<\/p>\n<p>St. John\u2019s is riding a six-game winning streak in Big East play overall, upsetting Cincinnati and Marquette on the road during that stretch.\u00a0 Four of the team\u2019s last five wins have come as underdogs, as the Red Storm have risen to the upper echelon of the conference standings.\u00a0 The top four teams in the league will earn a double bye in the Big East tournament, making this game even more important for both teams.<\/p>\n<p>Villanova has won the last six meetings with St.   John\u2019s, covering the past three games between the teams.\u00a0 The OVER has cashed in the last two meetings, although the UNDER is 3-1 in the past four games for each team overall.<\/p>\n<p>If you are betting this Big East college basketball game between Villanova &amp;
