{"id":11686,"date":"2010-12-19T13:50:07","date_gmt":"2010-12-19T18:50:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/?p=11686"},"modified":"2010-12-19T13:50:07","modified_gmt":"2010-12-19T18:50:07","slug":"nba-picks-ats-new-orleans-hornets-at-detroit-pistons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/nba-picks-ats-new-orleans-hornets-at-detroit-pistons-11686\/","title":{"rendered":"NBA Picks ATS:  New Orleans Hornets at Detroit Pistons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>New Orleans Hornets AT Detroit Pistons<br \/>\nSunday, December 19th, 2010 at 6:00 PM EST<br \/>\nCurrent Line:\u00a0 New Orleans -4.5<br \/>\nCurrent Total:\u00a0 184<br \/>\nMoneyline:\u00a0 New Orleans -200 \/ Detroit 170<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5560\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5560\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5560\" src=\"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/chris-paul-hornets-11-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/chris-paul-hornets-11-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.madduxsports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/chris-paul-hornets-11.jpg 495w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5560\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chris Paul has a career average of 17 &amp; 11 against the Pistons<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>New Orleans enters tonights game having won their past two, against Utah and Sacramento.\u00a0 The last time out against Utah, they punished the Jazz, winning by 29 at home where they are an impressive 11-3.<\/p>\n<p>Detroit got blown out by the horrible Clippers last game, losing by 21.\u00a0 Charlie Villanueva said following the game, &#8220;This one hits home.\u00a0 We knew what was at stake and we laid an egg.\u00a0 We embarassed ourselves out there.&#8221;\u00a0 What he was referring to, of course, was the fact that the game marked the first Clipper road win of the year.\u00a0 They are truly in a tailspin and have lost 8 of their past 10 games, dropping them to 8-19, well out of the Eastern Conference playoff picture.\u00a0 Detroit has a -5.9 point differential, scoring only 94.4 points a game and giving up 100.4.\u00a0 They are the worst rebounding team in the league and have the third lowest field goal percentage, so the numbers do tell the story.<\/p>\n<p>Some betting trends:\u00a0 The total has gone UNDER in all five of New Orleans&#8217; last 5 games.\u00a0 They are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 and the total has gone UNDER in their last five road games, as well.\u00a0 The total has gone OVER in 4 of New Orleans&#8217; last 5 games in Detroit.<\/p>\n<p>The total has gone OVER in 7 of Detroit&#8217;s last 8 home games, and Detroit has won just 2 of their past 6 home games.\u00a0 They have won 5 of their past 7 games at home against New Orleans, though.<\/p>\n<p>Some key matchups for tonight&#8217;s game:<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nChris Paul vs. Rodney Stuckey<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rodney Stuckey is one of the few Piston players having a decent year.\u00a0 He is averaging 16.5 points per game and 5.5 assists per game and has the body frame to body up Chris Paul and outmuscle him.\u00a0 Stuckey is 6&#8217;5&#8243; 205 while Chris Paul is a mere 6&#8217;0&#8243; 175.\u00a0 Historically, Paul has faired well in his career against Detroit, though, averaging 17.4 points per game and 11.6 assists a night, so he does have success offensively against Stuckey.\u00a0 The challenge will be on the defensive end if Detroit chooses to post Chris Paul up.\u00a0 While Chris Paul is relatively strong, giving up 5&#8243; to Stuckey could result in the Piston point guard getting some good and easy shots down low.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nDavid West vs. Greg Monroe &amp; Charlie Villanueva<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>David West could be in for a big game tonight.\u00a0 Monroe is a rookie and Villanueva is a horrible defender.\u00a0 West should be able to have his way with both of them, scoring on both jumpshots and post up opportunities.\u00a0 While Villanueva will challenge West on the offensive end, he isn&#8217;t particuarly dominant per say, and West should be able to contain him.\u00a0 This matchup will be a determining one for the game, as West going off for a big night will spell trouble for the Pistons.<\/p>\n<p>Despite NBA oddsmakers setting the line relatively close on this one, all the matchups are in New Orleans&#8217; favor and Detroit isn&#8217;t particuarly great at home (6-7).
