Saturday

Oklahoma travels to Stillwater for the regular season finale on a weekend when the Big 12 South title hands in the balance. The Sooners need a win over the Cowboys to reach the conference title game for the eighth time and pursue a seventh championship. “We’ve actually been in this situation nine of the last 11 years, so our guys need to embrace it and that’s what we’ve been doing around here,” said head coach Bob Stoops. “Hopefully we can do it again.” Oklahoma leads this series 81-16-7 and has won seven in a row by an average margin of 22 points. The current streak ties the fifth-longest OU streak in the series and the longest since 15 straight from 1977-91. The Sooners also hold a 34-6-5 edge in Stillwater. The team is 7-6 ATS on the road the past three years and the NCAA football lines page has them listed as an underdog.

The Sooners are coming off a dominating 53-24 win over the Baylor Bears in Waco last week, sprinting out to a 21-0 lead in the first period and led 34-7 at halftime. Quarterback Landry Jones played just three quarters, but completed 26-of-39 passes for 325 yards with three touchdowns. Oklahoma is playing its final two regular season games on the road for the first time since the 2006 campaign. ESPN’s College GameDay will be covering this contest on Saturday, marking the 25th time it has been broadcast from the site of an Oklahoma game.

Oklahoma State finally snapped head coach Mike Gundy’s 0-10 record in games against Texas and Oklahoma with a win over the Longhorns earlier this year. The Cowboys coach has been reminded of the program’s ineptitude against tonight’s opponent all week leading up to this high-profile game, but his young roster isn’t familiar with the history of the series. “I don’t know the history behind the nickname ‘Poke Choke’,” quarterback Brandon Weeden stated. “I guess we gave away some games when we were ahead, but I think it should be retired.” The team is 8-1 ATS as a favorite this year and 19-5 ATS in the role the past three campaigns.

The Cowboys are 10-1 for the first time in school history and a win guarantees a spot in the conference championship game next week. “We’re in control of our destiny,” Weeden commented. “We put ourselves in this position and it’s ours to take.” Oklahoma State’s 16-member senior class will play at home for a final time, having never missed a bowl game and been a part of three-straight nine-win teams. A key factor in tonight’s game will be the Cowboys red zone offense, which leads the country with points on 51 of its 54 chances.

Bettors will be interested in knowing that the Sooners are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games as an underdog, while the Cowboys are 7-1 ATS after a SU win.

The college football handicappers at Maddux Sports are ready for a huge weekend and ready for you to join them
