class="wp-caption-text">Mark Sanchez and the Jets are going for their first six-game winning streak in 12 years

The New York Jets (5-1) come off their bye week looking to win six straight games for the first time in a dozen years while the Green Bay Packers (4-3) hope to avoid a letdown and additional injuries following an emotional 28-24 victory against Brett Favre and the Vikings last Sunday night. Green Bay lost two more players for the season when linebackers Brady Poppinga and Brad Jones were injured against Minnesota and hope to get some others back on the field when they visit the favored Jets (-6 on the current pro football lines) on Sunday.

The Packers could see the return of starting defensive ends Cullen Jenkins and Ryan Pickett but are still dealing with 12 players on injured reserve before the midway point of the season. Despite the injuries, they are tied atop the NFC North with Chicago and would love nothing more than to earn their first road win at New York and snap a three-game series losing streak against the Jets.

Green Bay played just good enough to win last week against the Vikings, relying more on Favre’s mistakes than the team’s own offensive potential. Favre threw three interceptions against the Pack, including one that was returned 32 yards for a touchdown by Desmond Bishop in the third quarter. That ended up being the game-winning score, as neither team scored in the fourth.

New York ironically benefit from a similar experience against Favre three weeks ago on Monday Night Football in a 29-20 win and is tied with New England atop the AFC East. The Jets edged the Broncos 24-20 on the road just prior to their bye and have seen the OVER cash in every game during their current winning streak. Three of their last four games have taken place away from home, so you can bet the time off helped the team continue to improve and heal injuries.

One key injury for New York involves All-Pro cornerback Derrelle Revis, whose hamstring should finally be back to 100 percent. Revis has clearly not been himself since reporting late to training camp due to a contract dispute. He arrived just prior to the start of the regular season and now healthy should improve the NFL’s 22nd-ranked pass defense.

Revis and the Jets will be challenged by Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who threw for 295 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions against Minnesota. Rodgers and Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez have never faced each other or the opposition, which could make for an intriguing duel through the air between two of the league’s top young passers.

Now
