Eight teams are left in the 2010 World Cup, and the South American nations have been dominating so far. While (usual) European powerhouses France and Italy made their exits in the group stage, four South American teams are still in the competition: Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay.
Day 19 features matchups between Paraguay and Japan as well as Spain and Portugal. The first match could be closer than expected and the second one will see two of the best European teams face off.
We saw a shade of Wembley at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein, South Africa Sunday morning. Frank Lampard scored what looked like a goal to tie the match between England and Germany at two after Germany had jumped out to an early 2-0 lead.
Everything at the World Cup up to this point has just been just been a warmup – an appetizer for the great meal we are about to enjoy. Round robin play is now over, and the elimination rounds in the World Cup are about to get underway. Every game will have a winner, and every loser will be going home. South Korea gave Uruguay a tough fight, but the South Americans prevailed in the end. Luis Suarez continued his great run at the World Cup and scored twice to give Uruguay the win. He scored an amazing goal in the 80th minute to put the Uruguayan side up 2-1. Uruguay’s strong defense gave up its first goal, but prevented any further damage.
