The NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit continues this Saturday with race number 26 of the 36-race schedule. The Air Guard 400 will take place at the Richmond International Speedway beginning at 7:43 ET. Although the race will see favorites like Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, and Jeff Gordon, these drivers are heavily favored and therefore aren’t offering too much value. Instead, we’ll take a look at some of the drivers who have a real shot at winning the race this weekend and are also offering good value based on Bodog’s Air Guard 400 Betting Odds.
RYAN NEWMAN – Odds to win: 30/1 – This race is of special importance to Newman, who is still fighting for a spot in the Chase. He has put together very good back-to-back performances leading up to the Air Guard 400, finishing 6th and 8th in his last two races. Those solid recent performances, combined with the fact that he needs to win in order to stay in contention for the Chase, leave Newman primed for a run at the win this weekend. Newman is a great bet in this race, so bettors should definitely consider taking Newman in this one.
MATT KENSETH – Odds to win: 35/1 – Kenseth has historically done well on the Richmond track. In 21 career races in Richmond, he has come away with 3 top-5 finishes and 9 top-10 finishes. Although he has finished out of the top-10 in his last 6 races in Richmond, he and his team were able to secure a spot in the Chase last week in Atlanta, so they won’t have to deal with that pressure on Saturday. A more relaxed Kenseth will be able to race more freely, and that could lead to him winning the race this weekend.
JAMIE MCMURRAY – Odds to win: 30/1 – McMurray is a dark horse contender going into Saturday’s race. Although historically he has not done well at the Richmond track, earning only 3 top-10 finishes in 15 starts, he is currently in 13th place in the points standings. A win this weekend could secure a position in the Chase, so McMurray will be racing for more than most other drivers in Richmond. He will have to do it on a track he has had trouble on in the past, but the added importance of the Chase could be enough to get him his first win ever in Richmond.
CLINT BOWYER – Odds to win: 28/1 – Bowyer, the driver McMurray is chasing in the points standings, is currently holding onto the 12th and final spot in Chase. Bowyer has only 9 races in Richmond, but has 1 win and 4 top-10 finishes in that time. Although He doesn’t have to win the race in order to secure his spot in the chase, he won’t want to tempt fate by just staying in the middle of the pack and risk falling too far back. Instead, he’ll probably be aggressive to secure his spot in the Chase. This, along with his good history on the track, make him a solid pick on Saturday.
