The second match of the day is the one al eyes will be on. The USA face Ghana in a rematch from 2006. Kickoff is at 2:30pm ET at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, the site of the Yanks’ draw with England.
The Americans have played a great tournament, and should have two more goals on their record. Both of them were disallowed despite being good goals. They go into the knockout stage as Group C winner. They drew with England and Slovenia, and beat the Algerian Desert Foxes on a last minute goal by Landon Donovan.
The US have played a fun-to-watch style and have gone for the win in every match. They have had problems early in the games, and had to come from behind twice. They almost fell behind early against Algeria too.
Ghana haven’t been so fun to watch, but they have presented themselves a tough opponent for any team they play. They have had trouble scoring, and their two goals have come on penalty kicks. The Ghanaian side hasn’t looked good on the attack, and the US should be able to control them if they stay disciplined.
The match will be a rematch from the final group stage match of both teams in the 2006 World Cup. Ghana won 2-1 on a controversial penalty kick, and eliminated the US from the tournament. The Yanks will be looking for revenge, and I think they will be able to get it.
