English Premier League Week 3: Best Bet Picks for Saturday

Wayne Rooney Leads Manchester United against West Ham today
Week 3 of the English Premier League begins with six matches on Saturday. We will preview these six match-ups and give the best picks for those contests.

Arsenal (2nd) at Blackburn Rovers (10th)
Ewood Park
Kickoff: 7:45 AM ET

The Gunners are fresh off of a 6-0 thrashing of Blackpool and should continue their success against the Rovers. Blackburn should present more of a challenge to them, although they should still come out victorious. The Rovers should be inspired playing at home against one of the EPL’s elite teams. Although Arsenal should find plenty of opportunities to score, Blackburn could create as well against a suspect Arsenal defensive third. Betters should not be swayed by last season’s 2-1 Blackburn victory over the Gunners. Arsenal should win, although Blackburn will be inspired by their home crowd and could keep it close.

Bodog and Bookmaker have Arsenal favored at -1, with the over/under at 2½. Bettors should look to take Blackburn at +1 and the over.

Fulham (14th) at Blackpool (11th)
Bloomfield Road
Kickoff: 10:00 AM ET

Fulham has yet to be defeated this season and are coming off of an inspired 2-2 draw against Manchester United. Fulham striker Bobby Zamora has been impressive and should once again be a force. After a stunning 4-0 victory to open their season, Blackpool have come back down to earth and this match should reflect the team’s truer position as one of the weaker EPL teams. Blackpool does have a great crowd, but Fulham should have the talent to dictate the pace of the match.

Bodog and Bookmaker have Fulham favored at -½. Bettors should definitely take Fulham at -½ in this one.

Newcastle United (9th) at Wolverhampton Wanderers (7th)
Kickoff: 10:00 AM ET

Newcastle will be looking to continue their success following a shocking 6-0 victory over West Ham. Although it was quite an impressive result, it should not be looked at as a sign of things to come. Newcastle took advantage of a West Ham team dealing with turmoil in their front office, an advantage they will not have against Wolverhampton. With the advantage of playing at home, the Wanderers could in fact be considered the favorite in what should be a pretty even match.

Bodog and Bookmaker have this one even, with the over/under at 2½. Wolverhampton is the best bet, along with the under. A solid bet is also the draw. Bodog has the draw at +225, and Bookmaker has it at +215.

Wigan Athletic FC (20th) at Tottenham Hotspur (8th)
White Hart Lane
Kickoff: 10:00 AM ET

Tottenham is the heavy favorite in this one against a Wigan team will in all likelihood face relegation at the end of the season. Wigan is yet to score in 2 matches while allowing 10 goals in the same span. Tottenham, who will be playing in the Champions League this year, has too much talent for Wigan should dominate this one and win comfortably.

Bodog has Tottenham favored at -2, while Bookmaker has them favored at -1½. Bettors should definitely take Tottenham at -1½ in what is one of the most solid picks on Saturday.

Stoke City (18th) at Chelsea (1st)
Stamford Bridge
Kickoff: 10:00 AM ET

Chelsea have opened their season with back-to-back 6-0 victories. In most cases a third in a row would be highly unlikely, but Chelsea has a real chance of completing a similar performance on Saturday. Stoke City, one of the favorites to be relegated at the end of the season, will be on the road and provides no real obstacle for Chelsea in any facet of the game. Chelsea should put this one away early, and win comfortably for a third consecutive week.

Bodog and Bookmaker have as a surprisingly timid favorite at only -2½, with the over/under at 3½. The -2½ is a must here. Given Chelsea’s recent offensive displays, the over is also a solid bet, especially against one of the EPL’s weakest teams.

West Ham United (19th) at Manchester United (3rd)
Old Trafford
Kickoff: 12:30 PM ET

Following last week’s performance, Manchester’s Sir Alex Ferguson criticized his club for giving away points in a 2-2 draw at Fulham. They should have an easy time recovering this week as host West Ham. After their coach quit just before the season started, West Ham has not recovered and look to continue to struggle as their front office continues to face internal problems. Although not a not-tier team, West Ham is a decent side, but their current internal turmoil has reflected in the team’s on-field performances, and will continue to do so this week.

Manchester is favored at -2½ on Bodog, and at -2 on Bookmaker. Bettors should definitely take Manchester at -2 here.
