According to our power ratings the Toronto Raptors are the worst team in the East
Which team is the worst in the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference?  It looks like this year it’s the Toronto Raptors (40-42). Last season ended with some hope as the Raptors finished second in the Atlantic and missed the final spot in the playoffs by one game. But that was last year. In 2010-2011, there’s less about which to be optimistic. The major reason for this has to do with the Raptors’ loss of Chris Bosh who has gone to the Miami Heat, helping to make them the best team in the conference.

The addition of Amare Stoudemire and Raymond Felton should be enough to see the Knicks back in the playoffs
After years of failed attempts at improving and becoming a contender, the New York Knickerbockers (29-53) may be back in the playoffs this season. Last season, they were third in the Atlantic and 11th in the Eastern Conference. This year with some new star power and youthful players, New York has the chance to have a winning season.

The Pistons are likely to be improved but dont think they improve enough to make the playoffs
It was not that long ago that the Detroit Pistons (25-57) were contenders. Now they’re one of the worst teams in the NBA. Last season they couldn’t score and they could not stop teams from scoring, which basically meant that they won just 30% of their games. It didn’t help that some of their top players spent a lot of time healing from injuries. This season, they may be a bit better, but the question is how much better?

Fear the Deer, the Bucks looked very undervalued to start the season
Last season was a breakthrough year for the Milwaukee Bucks (46-36) as they finished second in the Central Division and sixth in the Eastern Conference. The Bucks were knocked out of the playoffs in round one, losing to the Hawks four games to three. It was quite a year, partly thanks to breakthrough performances by Andrew Bogut and Luke Ridnour. The Bucks were a major surprise last year. What will they do for an encore?

If Granger and the Pacers can have some better luck with injuries they could sneak into the 2011 nba playoffs
For the Indiana Pacers (32-50) the 2009-2010 season was a case of not setting the pace.  The team was pretty much deficient on both end of the court as they finished fourth in the Central Division and 10th in the Eastern Conference. The Pacers missed the postseason by nine wins. They brought in some new blood that did not pan out, lacked offense, and had to deal with numerous injury problems. It was a season to forget. Can they move up the ladder in 2010-2011?

If Mo Williams is your #1 option your team is in trouble. King James has left the Cavs in a terrible position
Well, who knows when the Cleveland Cavaliers (61-21) will be back on top again? With the departure of LeBron James, the dismantling of the frontcourt with Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Shaquille O’Neal being let go and the firing of GM Danny Ferry and coach Mike Brown, this team won’t be on top again for some time.

The Chicago Bulls added a boat load of talent in the free agency but Rose taking the next step is what they need to challenge for a title
This could be the year of the bull. Or maybe you could say the year of the Chicago Bulls (41-41). Last season, the Bulls made it into the playoffs after finishing third in the Central and eighth in the Eastern Conference. But this was a team that over the years has been defined by inconsistency. That should be the Bulls’ goal this season—consistent play. They have a sound nucleus that is speedy, and new coach Tom Thibodeau has arrived with a reputation for creativity and an effective management style.

We are not expecting the Bobcats to make it back to the postseason in a improved Eastern Conference
The Charlotte Bobcats (44-38), under the direction of coach Larry Brown, finished fourth in the Southeast and seventh in the East last season. It was their first time in the postseason. The Cats met the Orlando Magic in the initial round of the playoffs and lost to them in four straight. That was a stellar season for a team that was overall mediocre. Can master coach Larry Brown get this year’s Bobcats back to the postseason? One thing is for sure—doing so won’t be easy.

Expect the Magic to be right up there with the Heat and Celtics as the top teams in the East
In 2009-2010, the Orlando Magic (59-23) once again went to the playoffs after finishing first in the Southeast division and second to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference. They have been and look to continue to be one of the top three teams in the East.  But somehow the Magic have to work some magic and transform themselves into the best club in that conference. That will be difficult for them to do with the upgrades Miami has added.

The Hawks overpaid for Joe Johnson in the offseason but he will keep Atlanta towards the top of the Eastern conference
In 2009-2010, the Atlanta Hawks (53-29) posted the third best record in the East and second to Orlando in the Southeast Division. They did it mainly with offense and were helped by the fact that they were one of the few teams that simply did not have to deal with any major adversity from the injury bug. An exact repeat of last least will not be in order, but this is certainly a team that has playoff potential.
