Bears Vs Chargers Preseason Game Preview
Brian Urlacher and the Bears at +3 are Maddux's Free NFL Pick for Today
The San Diego Chargers are a lot more familiar with the Chicago Bears than the casual fan would think as they face each other for the first time in three years in their preseason opener on Saturday night.  The last meeting to open the regular season in 2007 saw former Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera as the new linebackers coach in San Diego after helping lead Chicago to Super Bowl XLI.  The Chargers won that game 14-3 and are home favorites at -3 tonight to beat the Bears again.  Be sure to view the NFL betting odds page of our website that offers live and updated point spreads for all games.

It is easy to get excited about new QB Donovan McNabb if you are a Washington Redskins fan, but the bigger move by the team in the offseason was bringing in head coach Mike Shanahan and GM Bruce Allen to restructure the organization from the bottom up.  Shanahan brings a winning attitude as a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Denver Broncos to the favored Redskins (-3) against the Buffalo Bills in their opener on Friday and owns one of the most impressive preseason records of any active coach at 41-19.

Matt Ryan Atlanta Falcons
Maddux's Free NFL Pick is on the Under 34.5 in tonight's contest
Who will look more like the New England Patriots in 2010, the Atlanta Falcons or the Kansas City Chiefs?  The favored Falcons (-3) may not have a direct connection to the Patriots, but they have more players who seem to resemble the three-time Super Bowl champions going into Friday’s preseason opener against the Chiefs.  Future Hall of Fame TE Tony Gonzalez will also face his former team for the first time since a trade sent him from Kansas City for Atlanta less than two years ago.

Jaguars Vs Eagles Preseason Odds
Mike Vick is one of the 3 philly QBs making the depth at that position warrant NFL odds of -3
The Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars both have a lot to prove going into their preseason opener on Friday, but for different reasons.  The NFL odds makers have the Eagles as home favorites of -3 and begin the Kevin Kolb era at quarterback after he replaced Donovan McNabb in the offseason.  Kolb became the only QB in NFL history to throw for more than 300 yards in his first two starts for Philly last year when he filled in for an injured McNabb, but this year he will be saddled with even higher expectations in trying to replace a legend.

Ravens Vs Panthers Preseason Preview
The current NFL odds have Baltimore as a 3.5 point favorite over the Panthers
The Baltimore Ravens have dreams of returning to the Super Bowl while the wounded Carolina Panthers simply want to get back on track after suffering some key injuries and making a few personnel changes heading into their preseason opener on Thursday night.  The Ravens enter this game as home favorites at -3.5 after a successful 9-7 campaign a year ago that was capped by a surprising upset of the New England Patriots in the opening round of the playoffs.  Line quoted at the time of publish, for up to date odds check out the live NFL lines page offering point spreads from multiple sportsbooks.

New England Patriots Vs New Orleans Saints Preseason GameThe New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints got a sneak preview of each other earlier in the week when they practiced together, meeting for the first time since the defending Super Bowl champions made a big statement in a 38-17 rout on Monday Night Football last November.  The Saints still need a couple more championships to equal the Patriots, who find themselves as small favorites at -1.5 in Thursday’s preseason opener for both teams.  Line is current of the time of publish, but preseason betting odds do move quickly so check out the NFL betting lines page of the website for up to date point spreads.

Oakland Raiders Vs Dallas Cowboys NFL Pick
Maddux's Free NFL Pick likes tonights 1st half to go over the total
The Dallas Cowboys will be playing for the second time in five days and look to build off an impressive 19-7 win over Cincinnati in the Hall of Fame Game when they host the Oakland Raiders on Thursday.  The Cowboys are solid favorites at -3 at Bookmaker and 5Dimes at the time of publish. They played outstanding defense against the Bengals, who did not score until the final minute of the game.  Meanwhile, the Raiders hope they can begin to turn their fortunes around with a good preseason showing at Dallas.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Football
Could the Tampa Bay Buccaneers possibly surprise bettors this year?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers likely will not be playoff contenders this season, but second-year head coach Raheem Morris is building a strong, young team focused on becoming a force again in the NFC someday in the future.  The Bucs would certainly like to think first-round draft pick Gerald McCoy will develop into another All-Pro DT like former Super Bowl champ Warren Sapp, who has spent some time with the rookie recently in order teach him a few things about how to grow into a dominant force in the NFL.  McCoy definitely has that type of potential and could be part of something special in Tampa if second-year QB Josh Freeman becomes the player Morris envisioned when he was drafted a year ago.  Freeman needs RB Cadillac Williams to stay healthy and form a bond with rookie receivers Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn, who might become a dangerous tandem down the road in complementing TE Kellen Winslow Jr.

Seattle Seahawks Football OddsThe Pete Carroll era begins in Seattle after he left a very successful college coaching career at Southern Cal for another shot at the NFL.  Carroll has some unfinished business following his first stint as a pro football head coach with the New York Jets and New England Patriots, posting a 33-31 record in four seasons between the teams and a winning record against the NFL line.  The guy who immediately followed him in New England just happened to be former Jets defensive coordinator Bill Belichick, who went on to win three Super Bowls with the Patriots.  This time around, Carroll inherits a squad that has a unique blend of youth and experience.  Five years removed from their one and only Super Bowl appearance, the Seahawks still have veteran QB Matt Hasselbeck leading the offense designed by new offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates, who has been working hard to develop 2009 free-agent WR signee T.J. Houshmandzadeh and former USC great Mike Williams as his top targets.

carolina panthers footballThe Carolina Panthers will be going through a transition phase this season after losing two of their most notable players over the last decade.  Gone are former starting QB Jake Delhomme (Cleveland Browns) and DE Julius Peppers (Chicago Bears) from a team that played in Super Bowl XXXVIII a little less than seven years ago.  Carolina head coach John Fox remains to try to re-build around the NFL’s third-best running game, led by two returning 1,000-yard rushers in Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams.  To help their chances against the NFL spreads, Fox will turn to third-year QB Matt Moore to replace Delhomme while rookie Jimmy Clausen learns behind him.  Because Stewart and Williams can dominate by running the ball, Moore will not have a lot of pressure on him right away.  But that could change down the line if the Panthers struggle and with Clausen breathing down his neck.
