MLB Betting Odds: Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels

The Texas Rangers (31-20) and Los Angeles Angels (26-26) will open up an important three-game American League West series on Friday night at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, with the first pitch scheduled for 10:05 ET

Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Angels

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis is 2-2 with a 4.29 ERA in five road starts this year

Texas hits the road after going 4-2 on its recent homestand, but will look to recover from a pair of blowout losses to the Seattle Mariners.  The Rangers were outscored by a 31-11 margin in those contests.  “This is going to happen every now and then,” commented Rangers relief pitcher Mike Adams.  The club hopes to perform better in June, posting an even 14-14 mark in May, which was far different than the team’s 17-6 record in April.  Texas is 23-9 in its last 32 games as a road favorite of -110 to -150.

Rangers starting pitcher Colby Lewis (4-3, 3.58 ERA) has led the club to consecutive victories, including an 8-7 home win over the Toronto Blue Jays last time out.  He didn’t factor into the decision of that contest, allowing four runs and 10 hits over 5.1 innings of work.  The right-hander is 2-2 with a 4.29 ERA in five road outings, surrendering 10 home runs in 35.2 frames.  In 13 career games (11 starts) versus the Angels, Lewis has garnered a 4-3 record and 4.48 ERA, including a 1-1 mark and 4.13 ERA in four outings a year ago.

Los Angeles saw its season-high eight-game win streak come to an end on Wednesday night, dropping a 6-5 decision to the New York Yankees.  The Angels still managed to post a solid 18-11 record in the month of May, which has them 5.5 games back of the Rangers in the AL West division standings.  Mike Trout and Mark Trumbo have provided the team a major lift offensively, while Albert Pujols is starting to come along after a horrific start.  Los Angeles is 2-8 in its last 10 games as a home underdog.

Angels starting pitcher Jerome Williams (5-2, 3.81 ERA) has watched the team alternate wins and losses over his last five starts, coming off a 5-3 road victory over the Seattle Mariners, giving up three runs and five hits over six frames.  The right-hander has put together a perfect 4-0 record and 2.08 ERA in four home outings, issuing just three walks and striking out 21 batters in 30.1 combined frames.  In four career appearances versus the Rangers, Williams has yet to record a decision, while allowing 23 hits and 14 earned runs over just 10.1 frames (12.19 ERA).

Bettors will likely back the Angels due to their 7-0 mark in Williams’ last seven home starts.
