White Sox Looking Like Champs Again

After the All-Star break, the Chicago White Sox took a turn that seemed to completely diminish any hopes of winning their division leaving many people debating whether or not the defending champs would even make the playoffs. The White Sox won just 2 of their first 12 games after the break giving Detroit a commanding lead in the AL Central race while also allowing Minnesota to enter the wild card picture. In that stretch, the Sox were swept by the Yankees in 3 games. They then lost 2 out of 3 to Detroit and Texas. After that they were once again swept, this time by the Minnesota Twins.

The Sox then hit the road where they started putting the pieces back together. Since July 28th, the White Sox have won 11 of 16 games putting them ahead in the race for the American League Wild Card race and only 5 games back from the Detroit Tigers for the division championship. Recently, the Sox have been on a tear in their last ten games which involved beating some stiff competition.

Just this past weekend, the Sox swept Detroit, the best team in baseball which narrowed Detroit’s division lead from 8 to 5 games, 2 of those games we had members baseball picks on the Chi Sox. In that three game stretch, the Sox beat both Kenny Rogers and Jason Verlander who have been spectacular all season long for Detroit. Before that, Chicago took 2 out of 3 from the New York Yankees who also happen to lead their division in the American League East. Over their last 10 games, the Sox have won 7 of them. In that stretch, the Sox are hitting .281 as a team and their team E.R.A. is 3.76. The Sox bullpen has been rock steady and their bullpen E.R.A. has been an outstanding 2.52. Chicago is peaking right now and they have established themselves as the second best team in the AL. The question now remains whether or not they can become the best team in the American League.
