Position Needs for San Diego
Wide Receiver: Keenan McCardell was released and at age 37 and no TD catches last year it was the right move. Backup Az-Zahir Hakim also was lost in free agency to the Dolphins. The Chargers don't have a true #1 wideout and with a deep WR class look for them to spend a pick or two trying to find one.
Safety: Terrence Kiel was released stemming for legal troubles as well as coverage problems on the field. A playmaker in this spot is long overdue.
Linebacker: Adding depth and youth, hell even warm bodies is needed. Steve Foley, Randall Godfrey, Donnie Edwards have been either released or signed elsewhere and there is nothing left in the linebacking pipeline.
Draft Outlook for the San Diego Chargers
The Chargers had the most talented team in the league last season, but fell flat on their face in the playoffs. This year they don't lose too much and really only have 1 immediate need at the safety position so they should be once again be considered one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. Filling a few holes in the draft will solidify that status.
If Texas' Michael Griffin or Florida's Reggie Nelson are on the board when the Chargers go to make their first round pick, expect them to scoop one of these ball hawk game changing players up. Miami's Brandon Meriweather is also a possibility if they want to reach for a safety with their first pick.
If they don't go safety, a slew of wide receivers which include Dwayne Bowe from LSU, Steve Smith from Southern Cal, Sidney Rice from South Carolina, and Buckeye Anthony Gonzalez will be on the Chargers draft radar.
