Position Needs for Oakland
Quarterback: Aaron Brooks was released and thank god if you were a Raiders fan. Andrew Walters 3-13 INT/TD ratio isn't going to get it done. Now the question Russell or Quinn? Both will be killed playing behind the leagues worst O-Line, but at least Russell's big build he may survive half the season before injury sets in.
Offensive Tackle: Robert Gallery is probably going to be a bust and Langston Walker although durable was beaten continuously by the leagues above average pass rushers.
Defensive Tackle: Tommy Kelly's position is set, but Warren Sapp is 34 and is no spring chicken. Behind those 2 is nothing, nada, zilch. Depth and youth is required for the defensive line to keep the Raiders in games.
Draft Outlook for the Oakland Raiders
The Raiders are quickly becoming the NFL's version of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Over the last 4 seasons Oakland has tallied 4,5,4 & 2 wins, averaging less than 4 wins per season over that time frame. The good news is they get the first pick in this years draft but as long as Al Davis is calling the shots Oakland figures to be down for years to come.
The Raiders would be best served to trade down from the number 1 spot and acquire more picks, but it doesn't look like anyone is interested in moving up. With that being said all the experts are calling for JaMarcus Russell to be selected number 1. We can live with that scenario if no one is wiling to move up to grab Oakland's pick. The rest of the draft will be used on filling the handful of holes on the offensive and defensive line positions. Both help for the offensive and defensive tackle positions as well as the Defensive End positions should be selected.
