New York Jets Mock Draft Picks
Position Needs for New York
Cornerback: Andre Dyson did a fine job at left corner but the right cornerback position was a revolving door all season. A talented corner is a must.
Defensive Line: Namely a nose tackle would be the pick. Dewayne Robertson is not the classic nose tackle and isn't a great fit for the Jets 3-4 scheme. Drafting a true nose tackle could take pressure off of Jonathon Vilma and help the porous run defense.
Wide Receiver: The starters of Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery are solid options but the number 3 spot needs to be upgraded. Tim Dwight and Justin McCareins just don't cut it. With a deep class of wide-outs available grabbing an upgrade late is possible.
Draft Outlook for the New York Jets
The Jets bounced back from a 4-12 season in 05, to a 10-6 record and a playoff birth in 2006. The key to that next level is improved defense play and defense-minded head coach Eric Mangini will look to build that through this draft.
New York took care of the running back hole for the short term by trading for starting RB Thomas Jones from Chicago. In that deal they also acquired another second round pick which will provide an additional day 1 draft selection.
In the first round the trio of Aaron Ross from Texas, Chris Houston from Arkansas, and Darrelle Revis (if he slips down) are CB's that will be going about the time the Jets select. The second and third round figures to see the wide receiver and d-line depth get filled.
