New England Patriots Mock Draft Picks
Position Needs for New England
Linebacker: Tedy Bruschi is slowing and won't be around much longer. Mike Vrabel is getting older and is better suited to play on the outside. Depth is needed for the future. Depending on the player, Vrabel may stay inside if a young outside linebacker is drafted.
Safety: Rodney Harrision is now 34 and prone to injury. Eugene Wilson is not the same player the last 2 years who along with Tubucky Jones spent most of 06 on the IR.
Offensive Tackle: Matt Light struggled against elite athletes, and protecting Brady is of the utmost importance.
Draft Outlook for the New England Patriots
The Patriots came out firing snagging arguably the best free agent on the market former Ravens linebacker Adalius Thomas. New England also signed division rival running back Sammy Morris (Miami) to replace the released Correy Dilion. They took care of a weak wide receiver area by signing Donte' Stallworth from Philadelphia, Wes Welker from Miami, and took a flyer on the talented Kelley Washington (Cincinnati) who with some proper coaching and confidence could turn into a real weapon for Brady.
Thanks to a trade with Seattle, the Pats have 2 first round
draft choices, the 24th and 28th picks. Look for one of those
picks to be spent on Mississippi Rebels Linebacker, Patrick
Willis who would fit in well and give New England some youth
at the position. The other pick will likely be sent on some
secondary help. With the Asante Samuel situation not resolved,
and a holdout likely, look for Darrelle Revis CB, from Pittsburgh,
Aaron Ross CB, from Texas, or Florida Gator's safety Reggie
Nelson to be at the top of the Pats wish list.
