Position Needs for Minnesota
Wide Receiver: The Vikings can say they don't miss Randy Moss all they want, but the bottom line is, the WR corps have struggled to perform at just an average level of play since number 84 left. Deep class of talent young wide outs, should help Vikes regain explosiveness.
Cornerback: Rookie Cedric Griffin played well his first season and with Antoine Winfield the Vikings have a pretty solid foundation at corner, but they released Fred Smoot, so more depth is needed.
Defensive End: Want to imagine how good Minnys defense might have been without the loss of Erasmus James in week 2? Coming off knee surgery and with no depth behind him, adding a speed rusher off the end would bolster the Tampa-2 scheme the Vikes run.
Draft Outlook for the Minnesota Vikings
Over the last 5 years, the Vikings have not gotten enough out of their first round selections with the exception of DT Bryant McKinnie. Personal director Rick Spielman now has control over the draft process and hopefully will have better success with his 1st round choices.
The Vikings could go a number of ways with the 7th pick. Best move may be trading down to acquire a couple of more picks to stock pile young guy wide receivers and other need position players. If they don't move down and Calvin Johnson doesn't fall into their lap (less than 1% chance of that happening), Clemson defensive end Gaines Adams, safety LaRon Landry (LSU), DE Jamaal Anderson (Arkansas), and Michigan stud corner Leon Hall are all possible selections for Minnesota at number 7.
