Position Needs for Indianapolis
Defensive Line: This unit played well in the playoffs, but don't be fooled, upgrades are needed. Montae Reagor was released and the mysterious Corey Simon situation gets weirder every day. Without those 2 the line struggled, and no one has been signed to fill the holes thus far.
Linebacker: OLB David Thorton has moved on to Tennessee as has Cato June to Tampa Bay. Unit as a whole lacks depth now, and never really had a play maker either. Time for upgrades in the line backing core.
Safety: Miss Doss left via free agency and when he and Bob Sanders were out of the lineup in 06, the defense struggled mightily. Depth is need so that CB Marlin Jackson isn't moved out of his natural position to fill the safety void.
Draft Outlook for the Indianapolis Colts
The Colts won the 2006 superbowl easy beating the Chicago Bears 29-17. To have a shot at repeating Indianapolis has some holes to fill from players leaving via free agency.
Biggest problem to fill is the defensive line and with the 32nd pick, Justin Harrell the defensive tackle out of Tennessee would be fill a huge need and offer great value. Harrell was injured at the beginning of the Vols season, but had it not be for that injury, he possibly would be a fringe top 10 player. Having the Colts snag Harrell up at 32 would be a steal in my eyes.
Another need besides the 3 aforementioned would be at the running back position. Dominic Rhodes has left for the west coast (Oakland Raiders), and although Addai did a fine job in his rookie season, it is uncertain if he will thrive without the 2 back system. Also depth is now very thin in the backfield. Colts have some work to do in the late rounds if they expect to stay on top.
