Green Bay Packers Mock Draft Picks

Position Needs for Green Bay

Running Back: Ahman Green has moved on in free agency (Houston), which might be for the best since he turns 31 this season. Vernand Morency isn't the answer, time to go young and groom the future.

Wide Receiver: Donald Driver had another excellent year and Greg Jennings did have a solid rookie campaign, but neither player is a big red zone target or big enough to shield defenders. Big lengthy wide out in the latter rounds could help Favre and company be explosive.

Tight End: David Martin left via free agency (Miami) and was often injured. Bubba Franks didn't show up last year and had 0 touchdowns for the Pack. Favre loves his tight ends, and Green Bay needs to get him one.

Draft Outlook for the Green Bay Packers

Mike Sherman and his 2002-2004 draft picks set the Packers back the last 2 seasons, but since GM Ted Thompson took over the selection process, it is clear that Green Bay is back on track and one of the better franchises and grabbing up young talent.

With the loss of Ahman Green, the Pack will have to bring in a stud running back. Marshawn Lynch is one of the more aggressive running backs in the draft, with yards after contact his specialty, something expected in Green Bay's zone blocking system. He also proved to be a much more effective pass catching option at Cal last season grabbing 34 receptions which matched his total for the previous two years combined.

With the right moves Ted Thompson has a chance to get the Packers back into the playoffs. In the 2006 NFL draft, he took care of the defensive & offensive lines, now it is time to replenish Favre's weapons and give him some play makers. Look for this draft to focus on getting him those weapons and more TD's for the Packers in 2007.
