2006 Final 4 Basketball Predictions
Some of the flattest earth in our country is in Indiana, where the lay of the land tends to be perfect for basketball. So it’s fitting that the Final Four of NCAA Men’s Basketball will meet in Indianapolis between April 1-3 to determine the 2006 National Championship. And not one first seed will be on the court. The last time that happened was 1980. This is only the second time in tournament history that not one first seed has not made it to the Final Four. The teams that will be there made it by outplaying in one way or another and beating four other opponents. Now it’s simply two more wins to be this year’s college champs of basketball.
Representing the PAC-10 will be tournament second seed the UCLA Bruins. The conference most represented this year is the Southeastern, with the third seed LSU Tigers and the second seed Florida Gators both getting final berths. If you didn’t have any of these teams in your Final Four brackets, then chances are you also didn’t pick the eleventh seed George Mason Patriots from the Colonial Athletic Conference to still be playing basketball on April 1. April Fools to you too!
Each of these teams at one point or another in the tournament found itself on the edge of elimination. Each managed to stick with it, tough it out, and advance to the next level. This is an unlikely combination of finalists, except for the fact that once again one conference has two teams in the Final Four. The strange thing about that is it’s not The Big East, Atlantic Coast Conference, Big 10 or Big 12; it’s the Southeastern! More power to them, they earned it as did the other two teams.
So, what can we expect? With the way this year’s March Madness has played out it seems insane to even try to prognosticate on the last three games. Then again, the strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies of each team seem pretty clear. With that in mind, let’s consider the final 4 match-ups or grab our ATS winning picks if you are looking to end the season no a good note.
