Participants/Overview: Although The 2009 Conference USA Tournament invites all 12 team to participate, really this is Memphis' title and everyone else is playing for second. The tournament will be hosted once again at the FedEx Forum in Memphis Tennessee. Rice, UAB, Southern Miss, Houston, UCF, Tulsa, UTEP, SMU, E. Carolina, Tulane, and Marshall will all be trying to defy the basketball odds and prevent the Tigers from a 4th consecutive conference USA tournament championship.

Memphis enters the 2009 Conference USA tournament with a 58 game winning streak against conference opponents. To say they are the odds on favorite is an understatement. Memphis is ranked 3rd in the country with a 28-3 overall record and also has the nations longest winning streak currently at 22 games.

Although this team is younger and less experienced than past John Calipari squads beating all opponents in all rounds by double digits is likely to happen for the 4th straight year.

So yeah we know Memphis is good but is there anyone else that has a small chance of pulling the upset? UAB and Tulsa offer the best shot to do so.

Tulsa enters the tournament as the number 2 seed. The Golden Hurricanes finished the regular season with a 12-4 conference record. UAB will be the 3rd seed via a 11-5 conference record. Both recorded 20 plus wins, but both didn't give Memphis much a of game in their regular season matchups.

Our prediction is an easy one. Memphis. The Tigers should make it 61 straight wins and earn a 2 seed in the 2009 Big Dance. People want to keep knocking Memphis down because of the conference they play in but when you haven't lost a game since before Christmas your resume is going to look pretty damn good.

Memphis Tigers. For the third straight year in a row Memphis beat all 3 teams by double digits to easily claim the Conference USA Tournament Championship. The 2008 performance may be even more dominating than years past as the margin of victory was no less than 16 points in any of the games. In the finals the number 1 seeded Tigers demolished the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes 77-51. Memphis finished the regular season undefeated in conference USA play and secured a number 1 seed in the 2008 Big Dance. The Tigers would go on to lose in the finals to Kansas in a game that they had locked up in the final minutes but the dreaded free throw shooting that everyone said would be Memphis' achilles heel finally came to fruition costing John Calapari's Tigers a national title.
