Participants/Overview: The 2007 Mountain West Tournament will once again provide some great college hoops action. This season UNLV is the tournaments official host and will receive the added home court value. On the line is one entry into the 2007 NCAA Mens Tournament, which with so many bubble teams from this conference, winning the MWC Tournament would sooth a lot of coaches stomachs come Sunday March 11th.
Some Mountain West Conference Tournament news, heading into today's publish date the league is top heavy. There are only 4 legitimate championship contenders for this years conference tourney. BYU, Air Force, San Diego State, & UNLV will most likely be the ones gunning for that automatic birth. We have to anoint UNLV the favorite to come away with the crown as they are host school, giving them familiar surrounds and boasting a crowd behind them. The Rebels have only lost once at home all season long, so the title will be going through UNLV.
BYU & Air Force are very close at securing at large bids as long as they don't stumble in the first round. San Diego State the preseason league favorite is starting to put it all together and should be poised to make a run. The Aztecs will be looking to defend their Mountain West Conference tournament title, and will have a little extra motivation knowing they must know win their way into the NCAA Tournament.

Last Years Winner
San Diego State Aztecs. With an RPI around 60, SD State knew they
needed to win the Mountain West Championship or else they would
be sweating on selection Sunday. The Aztecs easily defeated Colorado
State in the first round. In the second round UNLV played them
tough, and a late 3 pointer sealed a 3 point victory to reach
the championship game. In the championship game the top seeded
Aztecs took on upset minded Wyoming who earlier in the week had
knocked off number 2 seeded Air Force a loss at the time which
looked to kill Falcons' chances of making it to the Big Dance.
The Cowboys than defeated Utah in the semis with a chance to go
dancing. In the championship match, the lead swung back and forth
ultimately forcing overtime. With 2 minutes left in OT, Wyoming
lead by 4, which is when SD State turned it on ending the game
on a 11-2 run to secure an NCAA birth.
