Position Needs for Chicago
Linebacker: Lance Briggs may sit out the entire season and behind him there is little depth. Hunter Hillenmyer is not starter material. If Briggs situation not worked out by the draft, this is a serious hole for Chicago.
Wide Receiver: Muhsin Muhammad is no longer a go to guy or a number 1 receiver and is getting up there in age. Bernard Berrian showed some flashes of big play ability but other times looked lost on the field. Adding a stud would help young QB Rex Grossman have another weapon at his disposal.
Tight End: This was an area that needed to be worked on in the 06 draft but the Bears passed and now it still needs to be addresses. Desmond Clark is nice, but turns 30 next season and much better talent is out there in the draft pool.
Draft Outlook for the Chicago Bears
The Bears made it to the super bowl in 2006 and haven't lost much talent in the offseason. There is the big motza ball with the Lance Briggs situation, (threatening to sit out the season if long term deal isn't reached), but for the most part Chicago is still looking good for 2007.
It is hard to speculate on who the Bears will take with the first round pick because the rumors are very high that the Redskins would be willing to deal the 6th pick for Briggs. If that happens that changes the whole dynamic of Chicago's draft. For time purposes lets just say no trade is made. Look for the Bears to go after a wide receiver like South Carolina's Sydney Rice or LSU's Dwayne Bowe. If for some reason Miami's Greg Olson is on board he would be the perfect pick for Chicago.
Other candidates include Ben Grubbs from Auburn and Joe Staley from Central Michigan.
