Oregon takes on Arizona St Thursday night in Tempe in a key Pac 12 clash. Both teams lead their respective divisions in the Pac 12 with 3-0 records.

Both Oregon and Arizona St are currently in first place in their respective divisions in the Pac 12, and could meet in the Pac 12 Championship game in late November. Of course, Oregon St and USC might have something to say about that. But first things first, Oregon travels to Arizona St in a crucial Pac 12 showdown Thursday night. This is the 33rd meeting between the schools, and the series is tied 16-16. Oregon won last year in Eugene 41-27. Oregon has won 7 straight games in the series, including the last 4 in Tempe.

Oregon is 6-0 this season and 3-0 in Pac 12 play under coach Chip Kelly. Despite being #2 in both the AP and USA Today Coaches’ polls, Duck fans were upset when they were #3 in the initial BCS standings that came out Sunday, behind Alabama and Florida. The Ducks have won every game by at least 17 points. they have home wins over Arkansas St 57-34, Fresno St 42-25, Tennessee Tech 63-14, Arizona 49-0, and last week against Washington 52-21, along with a 51-26 win against Washington St in Seattle. The Ducks are 2-4 ATS and the total is 3-2 this season. Arizona St is 5-1 this season and 3-0 in the Pac 12 under first year coach Todd Graham. The Sun Devils were not in the top 25 in the BCS standings, but they are #24 in the coaches’ poll. The only loss for ASU came at Missouri 24-20. The Sun Devils have home wins over Northern Arizona 63-6, Illinois 45-14, and Utah 37-7, along with road wins over California 27-17, and 51-17 at Colorado last week. Arizona St is 5-1 ATS and the total is 2-3 this season. The Sun Devils were 22 point favorites at Colorado last week and the total was 55.5.

Arizona St is averaging 479 yards per game including 291.2 passing yards and 187.8 rushing yards. The Sun Devils are outscoring opponents 40.5-14.2 this season. ASU is 26th or better nationally in total offense, passing, and scoring. The Sun Devils are +3 in turnovers. ASU has allowed 14 sacks. Kevin Ozier has 15 catches, 211 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Oregon has won 9 straight Pac 12 games, scoring at least 40 points in each game. The Ducks are 4-0 ATS on grass, 4-1 in road games, 22-7-1 in road games, 11-5 after allowing less than 170 passing yards, 2-5 in Thursday games, 2-5-1 after a straight up win of 20 points or more, 1-3-1 after a cover, and 0-4 after allowing 200 rushing yards or more. The Ducks are 5-1-1 ATS recently against Arizona St. The favorite is 3-1-1 ATS in this series in the last five meetings. The last 4 in the series have gone over the total, and the over is also 4-1-1 in the last six in Tempe.

Arizona St has lost 17 straight games to top 10 teams. The Sun Devils are 3-0-1 ATS at home against teams with winning road records, and in October, 5-0 on grass, 5-1 overall, after allowing less than 275 total yards, 4-1-1 after gaining more than 450 total yards, 13-6-3 in Pac 12 games, 13-6-1 at home, 1-4 after scoring more than 40 points and rushing for 200 yards or more. The home team is 3-1-1 ATS in this series.

The main reason Florida passed Oregon in the BCS standings was because the Gators have a much tougher strength of schedule. That will change as Oregon has games against ranked teams USC, Stanford, and Oregon St in the second half of the season, along with this game against Arizona St. I think Oregon will try to impress the voters in a nationally televised showcase, and run up a lot of points against a very good if not great Arizona St team. The Sun Devils have a top ten defense, but they haven’t played anyone with the prolific offense of Oregon. I like Oregon to win by double digits with a lot of points scored by both teams.
