Miami of Ohio is 0-3 on the season, and none of the games have been particularly close. The Redhawks have been outscored 107-21 this season by Marshall, Kentucky and Cincinnati. The Redhawks will once again be big underdogs against Illinois this week as college football oddsmakers at 5dimes find the Illini to be 15 point favorites in the contest.
The Redhawks have had a lot of trouble moving the ball. The team ranks near the bottom of the nation in passing yardage (89.3 per game, 121st) and rushing yardage (60.0, 120th). Illinois has allowed 34 points twice this season, but that was against much tougher competition in Southern Illinois and then-No. 19 Washington.
The Fighting Illini have a strong QB in Nathan Scheelhaase. He’s thrown for 884 yards with a 64.3 percent completion ratio and has 7 TDs to his 4 INTs, for a QB rating of 159.5. Scheelhaase has a cabinet of capable receivers, as six Illini have at least four receptions on the season.
Ryan Lankford leads the crew with 225 yards, while Josh Ferguson has two TDs on the year. The aerial attack has generated 306 yards per game, ranking 21st in the nation. The backfield has been moderately effective, when utilized with Donovonn Young and Josh Ferguson being the two noted playmakers. Ferguson duals as a receiver and has seven receptions for 185 yards.
