Tuesday Notes

$180 million over eight years for Mark Teixera?!?!?! I didn’t think that even the Yankees were that stupid. If he’s worth than then what are guys like Pujols or Howard worth? The Yankees seem determined to ruin baseball by brute force.

Nick Saban was awarded coach of the year today. I still don’t like the guy, but I can’t really complain about it. I think my guy would have been either Kyle Whittingham or Paul Johnson, but I obviously can’t argue that he doesn’t deserve it. It’s good that someone gets a chance now before Rich Rodriguez starts his streak of consecutive wins next year.

The Jags’ Director of Player Personnel resigned today to take responsibility for the mess that the team is in. That’ll fix it. What a joke – the franchise obviously doesn’t want to look in the mirror and see what is actually wrong. The guy resigns today because he didn’t do a good enough job, yet the same roster he put together was called a major Super Bowl Contender in August. It’s clearly not his fault.

The Phoenix Coyotes are apparently almost broke, and there are fears that the league will have to step in because they won’t be able to meet their payroll. Who could have possibly seen that coming. I mean, hockey in the desert seems like such a perfect fit.

The Nuggets beat the Trail Blazers convincingly last night, and they did it with Melo sitting on the sidelines with a sore elbow. The more I see of Denver, the more I think that they have to be considered a legitimate team.

The Bill-Cowher-to-the Jets rumors seem to be picking up steam. It seems hard to believe how quickly Mangini has gone from genius to the hot seat – about four weeks by my count. If they don’t make the playoffs then he certainly deserves to go. That being said, if I was Cowher, I think I would go pretty much anywhere but the Jets. No one should choose to deal with that media circus if they have options, and Cowher has limitless ones.
