The NBA’s Best Offenses – Over/Under Betting

With Yao out for a little while expect the Rockets to push the pace and soar over the betting totals
Some teams just know how to score. Here’s a list of a few of the NBA’s teams who you should feel most comfortable betting the over on and should think twice before betting your NBA basketball picks under the total.

Golden State Warriors- The Warriors put points on the board, especially when they play at home. In their four home games this year, the Warriors have eclipsed 100 points three times, including one time when they topped 130. So far this season, Golden State ranks 6th overall in total scoring, averaging 106.7 points per game. When betting the over/under Golden State game, it’s also worth noting they tend to let up a lot of points. In their eight games so far this season, they have allowed the opponent to score 100 points six times. The only problem here is that this is not a secret, and most betting totals will be set high. But to be safe, either bet the over or don’t bet at all.

Los Angeles Lakers- In their first eight games, the defending NBA champions are averaging a ridiculous 112.1 points per game. The Lakers have scored over 100 points seven times, and the one game they did not, the totaled 99. Even though the Lakers are perhaps the best offensive team in the league, expect their average to dip slightly in coming weeks. They have yet to face an elite defense, and as the season progresses expect the Lakers to average somewhere around the 101.7 points per game that they did last year. Still, don’t hesitate when the Lakers play a poor defensive team.

Houston Rockets- The Rockets have disappointed so far this season from a record standpoint, but its not because of trouble on the offensive side of the ball. Houston ranks second in points per game at 109.0, and has already topped 120 points in a game on three separate contests. If Yao’s injury turns out to be serious, expect the average points per game to increase. While Yao’s presence certainly helps the team, his lack of athleticism holds back Aaron Brooks from pushing the tempo. The Rockets, especially with Yao, are a poor defensive team, so bet the over or don’t bet at all.

Phoenix Suns- No surprise here, right? For much of the last decade the Suns have been an offensive powerhouse. The Suns have averaged 108.3 points per game so far this season and really know how to score in their home building. In their three home games, the Suns have totaled 106, 110, and 123 points. This is another team who likes to push the tempo and create a high scoring game. While this is still a top offense, this team is older, so it would be safe to stay away from betting the over/under on the second of a back-to-back.

Utah Jazz- If there is a time to bet the over for the Jazz, then that time is now. After failing to score 100 points in either of their first two games, Utah has topped the 100 point mark in five of their last six games, including the last two games against two of the league’s best defensive teams (Miami and Orlando).  The Jazz are the only team to score over 100 against Miami so far this year, and it appears that Al Jefferson is starting to get more and more used to the system with each game. With Jefferson becoming more comfortable, and if Mehmet Okur returns from injury, this could end up being one of the league’s best offenses.

Overall: It wouldn’t be safe to bet the under on any of these teams, seeing as they all have multiple players who can get hot from the field and carry the team to a high total. They all are bet the over or stay away teams.
