John Henson and the North Carolina Tarheels are 6 1/2 point favorites at home over ACC rival Maryland

With Duke losing at Virginia Tech last night, it opened the door for North Carolina to win the ACC regular season title. If the Tarheels win out they will be the number #1 seed in the ACC tournament in 2 weeks. However, first things first, t5e Tarheels must take care of business against a dangerous Maryland team who would love nothing better than to play spoiler. Maryland is 18-10 overall and 7-6 in the ACC , 4.5 games behind Duke for first place. Maryland is holding opponents to 39.8% shooting from the field. Maryland converts 67.3% of their free throws. The Terps pull down 39.2 rebounds a game and have a rebounding margin of +5.1. They average 17.4 assists and 13.8 turnovers a game. Maryland forces 15.8 turnovers a game on defense. The Terps average  6.9 steals and 4.5 blocks a game. They lead the nation in rebounding.  They average 15.2 assists and 13.3 turnovers a game. They force  14.7 turnovers a game on defense. Carolina averages 6.5 steals and 5.4 blocks a game.

Maryland’s resume probably isn’t strong enough to earn an at large bid to the tournament. A victory over North Carolina on the road would help a lot, but it still might not be enough. North Carolina has huge games left against Florida St and Duke and must avoid looking past this Maryland team. These two have quite a rivalry so I don’t see the Tarheels coming out flat. It should be a great game.
