Los Angeles Angels at Baltimore Orioles

Los Angeles lost for the ninth time in 12 games and could possibly drop below .500 for the first time since June 2.  The game also marked the move of Torii Hunter going from his regular position of center field to right.  “It was different, but I was still in the game in the outfield,” Hunter said.  The Angels have been unable to collect back-to-back victories since June 16-17 and are 7-10 since the All-Star break.  Los Angeles is an even 1-1 this month (-20) and is 33-26 in August the past three years (-420).  The club will be a road favorite of -125 to -150 for just the fourth time this year (1-2, -170), but has excelled in his role the past three seasons, producing a 29-16 record (+620).  Despite the 6-3 loss in the series opener, the team is 10-4 in their last 14 games in Baltimore.

Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers

Los Angeles has dropped the first two games of a crucial four-game set in Arlington, failing to score a single run in a 1-0 defeat on Friday night to the Texas Rangers.  “I made one mistake in the first inning and it kind of cost us,” starting pitcher Joe Saunders said.  Since opening the break with a 3-0 mark, the club has dropped three straight and four of five.  “We’re still a little unsettled in a couple of areas on the offensive end,” manager Mike Scioscia said.  After plating 16 runs on 29 hits in two games versus New York, the Halos have been held to just two runs and batting .145 in the first two games of this series.  Los Angeles now trails Texas in the 2010 series 2-5, as six of the seven meetings this season have been one-run affairs.  The Angels are 3-6 after three or more consecutive losses this season (-310) and 12-8 in this situation the last three years (+320)

Los Angeles Dodgers at Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Dodgers left Boston without picking up a victory, after losing a 2-0 pitcher’s duel on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.  “They did many things better,” said Dodgers catcher Russell Martin.  “They’re a tough team to beat.”  The club returns to the Southern California area after a day off to face a team that swept them the previous weekend.  Manager Joe Torre’s club is 2-7 (-660) during interleague play this year and 16-26 (-1,330) the last three seasons.  Outfielders Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp hope to lead the offense on Tuesday night against a right-handed starter.  Ethier is batting .331 this season against righties compared to .295 versus southpaws, while Kemp has hit 10 of his 11 home runs against them.
